SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Jesus
knows that following him is not easy. His
way of love – in what we say, think, and do every day – can be very
difficult. He cautions us to
“estimate the cost” of following him. Being
a Christian is not something that happens to us; it is a way of life that we
choose each day. The cost of
discipleship is vigilance in the moment, so that we are constantly prepared to
choose justice, kindness, and the way of peace.
Prayer
Moment: With
your grace, Dear God, we can learn your ways with steadfast faith.

HELP
MAINTAIN YOUR PARISH
In
your envelopes for September is "Capital Improvement" Special Offering
envelope. These funds will be used
to maintain and improve our parish buildings, grounds and other
facilities. One example is the
parking lot, which is in need of repair and resurfacing.
Even a simple resurfacing will cost over $6,000 - and this is just one of
many improvement projects we need to complete soon.
Please be as generous as you can when making a gift with your Capital
Improvement envelope this month.
ST.

Trip to Appalachia
The Social Justice and Outreach Commission is looking for individuals who would
be interested in participating in a 4-day Outreach event this Spring in which we
will refurbish homes in Appalachia. We
want to assess the level of interest in such a trip so that we can determine the
size and type of program that would best fit our parish.
There will be an entry for this category under the Social Justice and
Outreach Heading on the Stewardship Survey being distributed at all masses on
Stewardship Sunday September 23. If
you are interested in participating or helping to plan this trip please be sure
to check this box on your Stewardship form. You can also contact Chris Homan at

SCHOOL
NEWS
Our academic goal for the current year and last year was to help our students become more proficient in the writing process. We have focused on this in all of our curriculum areas. We have recently learned that some of our children will have a poem published in the "Pine Tree Poetry" collection. The following names list our writers and the title of their poem:
Caitlin Dunkley-"Noah"
Alex Heidel-"Summer"
Olivia Maly-"God's Nature"
Nora Molinaro-"Winter Night"
Paige Sweeney-"Old man with a bald head, but a big heart"
We are proud of these young writers and the great work that all of our students have done in this area!
Moments with Mr. Z
Each week Mr. Z sends an
electronic version of his "Moments with Mr. Z" to all of our parents
and other interested parishioners. This column that goes out with our weekly
calendar, highlights various activities happening around SVF School,
accomplishments of our students, staff, and graduates, and other specific info
that relates to St. Vincent's. We will have copies available in
the back of church for those who would like a copy.
JUST
HOW MANY IS A MILLION?
With
your help, the students of St. Vincent Ferrer School would like to find out.
For the past several years, the students have been collecting pop can
tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House by Children’s Hospital.
This year, we will continue to collect in the hopes of reaching one
million and thereby earning a visit from Ronald McDonald himself!
If you can help us with your donation of pop can tabs, please place them
in the labeled bin in the back of church. Thanks
in advance for helping with one of our school’s charitable outreach programs.

*** THANK YOU
***
A public word of thanks to all those who have worked hard all summer to
make the SVF grounds "beautiful".
Despite the drought, we have many areas on our campus that shine with the
beauty of summer. Each plot is
cared for by a volunteer who loves SVF and gardening. We encourage everyone on the committee, to make their plot a
"prayer garden" where they offer up their time and talent for the good
of SVF and it's people.
We invite those of you who never use the Montgomery Road entrance, to
drive thru that way to see the many plots on that side of our property.
Visit the Memorial Garden and say a prayer for all parishioners present
and past.
Also, you may want to purchase a brick to place in the Memorial Garden
walkway to honor your family or loved one.
We hope to place an order before years-end, so contact the parish office
if interested.
Thanks again to all our A-A-P ("Adopt-A-Plot") workers.
A couple of plots are still available.

Brings Cub Scout Popcorn Sale
Like
many other scouting units in the area, St. Vincent's Cub Scout Pack 619 will be selling
popcorn throughout the month of September to raise money to fund our local
parish-scouting program. You'll probably see Cub Scouts from other area
packs selling the popcorn door-to-door or at Kroger, but at SVF, the
Cub Scouts take orders first (in September) and then deliver the popcorn in
November, just in time for holiday treats and gift giving. Many
different kinds of popcorn products are available, including gourmet
chocolate-coated and caramel corn in decorative tins, as well as a wide variety of
microwaveable popcorn.
If
you would like to order popcorn to support Catholic Cub Scouting at St. Vincent
Ferrer, please contact Cubmaster George Bryce at mountain4@gmail.com or
489-2792 for more information on items/pricing.
CALENDAR SCHEDULING FOR 2007-2008
Every group or organization that regularly meets or hosts events
should submit to the parish office in writing their desired dates,
times and rooms the group wishes to reserve for the 2007-2008 year (July
2007-June 2008). Please list a
contact person who will be responsible for clean up and security and if set-up
time is needed. Should any
conflicts arise throughout the year this person will be contacted.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.
