26th SUNDAY IN
ORDINARY TIME
We
encounter Lazarus every day. Any
need, great or small, near or far, is Lazarus at our door.
Our challenge – the “great chasm” – is to recognize Lazarus.
He may not literally lay in our yard or at our front door while we feast
sumptuously, but every day, somewhere and in some way; we encounter a person who
needs cheer, care, attention, comfort, or other resources we have to offer.
When we relieve the distress of others, we live with kingdom justice.
Prayer
Moment: Open my eyes, Lord, to see how I
might teach justice and model justice to others.

DESK
ST.
FRANCIS DAY PET BLESSING
Thursday, October 4th
is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. In
recognition of this saint who loved all of God’s creation, we will have a
special blessing service for pets and animals on Wednesday
evening October 3 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday afternoon October 4 at 2:00 p.m.
The Wednesday evening service will be in the driveway area by the
main entrance of the Church. The Thursday afternoon service will take place in
the upper parking lot by the school. We
are looking forward to blessing the variety of dogs, cats, birds, turtles,
snakes, goats, horses, etc. that make up the animal kingdom in our parish.
If there is rain the day of the
Pet Blessing, the blessing will be cancelled.
OCTOBER
COUNT
During the month of
October, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati requires each parish to keep a count of
the number of parishioners attending Sunday Mass. Thanks to all of our Ushers for helping to keep an accurate
October Count again this year beginning on October 6 & 7 weekend.
RESPECT
LIFE SUNDAY
The United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops has designated October 7th as National Respect
Life Sunday. So often our society
is openly hostile to life. On any
given day the headlines tell of countless acts of violence, murders and abuse.
This observance takes on special meaning in light of the many abortions
and terrorist attacks that have taken place throughout the world these last
number of years. More than ever, we as Christians are called to be the
prophetic voices who speak out – defending the sacredness of life in all of
its dimensions. May we never forget
that all life is a gift from God.
BINGO
AT ST. VINCENT FERRER WILL RETURN ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON ON OCTOBER 7
Doors
open at 12:30 p.m.; instants are sold at 1:00 p.m.; first Bingo game begins at
1:30 p.m.; Bingo will end by 5:00 p.m.
CAN
YOU HELP COUNT BINGO CARDS
Brenda
Hauser needs 2-3 additional volunteers to count bingo cards. This will be at the
parish, and at your leisure, but we would like a weekly, or bi-weekly
commitment. It's a sitting job, and would be fun to do with a friend, or
daughter/son. Please contact Brenda Hauser for more information at 984-8446,
618-5429, or b.hauser@remax.net.

First
Eucharist & Reconciliation
Don’t
forget to mark your calendars!
Parents of second graders who plan to prepare their children to receive First Communion in May are invited and expected to attend a meeting on Tuesday, October 2nd at 7:30 PM in Hamilton Hall. This meeting is a valuable resource for parents as it provides the necessary information needed for First Eucharist & First Reconciliation preparation. It gives parents, catechists and pastoral staff members an opportunity to work together to make the preparation a meaningful experience for the child, family and the parish.
Consider
taking one of our spiritually renewing companions for a leisurely break on a
quiet evening or afternoon. Stop
by the ushers’ room
located near the main entrance of the church to
browse the wide selection of reading material
in the bookcase.
All
persons over 55 are welcome to join us.
Yearly
membership dues of $10.00 are now being accepted throughout the summer.

Ministry
Trip to Appalachia
The Social Justice and Outreach Commission is looking for individuals who would
be interested in participating in a 4-day Outreach event this Spring in which we
will refurbish homes in Appalachia. We
want to assess the level of interest in such a trip so that we can determine the
size and type of program that would best fit our parish.
There was an entry for this category under the Social Justice and
Outreach Heading on the Stewardship Survey distributed at all masses.
If you are interested in participating or helping to plan this trip
please be sure to check this box on your Stewardship form. You can also contact
Chris Homan at 607-5996 or Connie Dunn at 791-7506.
SCHOOL
NEWS
Our Catholic Identity Goal for this school year is: Our students will exhibit behavior in line with our Christian values and teachings. We have placed a "Jesus Jar" in each of our classrooms to collect names of our students who behave like "Jesus would". A child receives a "ticket" that goes in the jar when they are "caught" doing something good. Things like helping someone in need, doing a special "service project", or other Christian actions are what we are looking for. All of these students will be recognized at the end of each month. Please feel free to contact Mr. Z. at school when you see these Christ-like behaviors being practiced by one of our students.
