Respect Life Sunday
26th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Jesus taught his disciples two different things in today's gospel. First, when John came to him saying that someone, not one of them, was exorcizing demons in Jesus' name, Jesus explained that anyone who was not against them was with them. If the person acted in Jesus' name, he would not be capable of speaking out against him. The second teaching involved the way a person should respond to temptation. Not that Jesus proposed that people inflict wounds on themselves, but to make his point clearly, he suggested ridding ourselves of the parts of our bodies that lead us to sinfulness. Rather than commit sinful acts using our hands, eyes, feet, or ears, it would be better to enter heaven without those body parts than to use them sinfully and live in eternal damnation.
Reflection: Share your ideas with one another about who some of the people are in our society that give of themselves and their resources to further God's Kingdom. It will probably be easy to come up with wealthy people who give large sums of money to charities, but what about the people who give other resources like time, energy, talent? Ask yourselves if there is more you can do to bring kindness into someone else's life.
PASTOR’S DESK
PARISH PICNIC WAS A GREAT SUCCESS
The Lord blessed the over 200 SVF parishioners who attended the parish picnic with great weather. Special thanks to the parish volunteers who contributed to the event: Jeff Barrow, Bob Carroll, Elaine & Dave Davis, Laura & Frank Geraci, Peg & Joe Halpin, Amy & Scott Hobler, Chris & Jeff Homan, Laura & Jeff Johnson, Bartley & Rob Jutze, Jodi & Kurt Kastner, Lori & David Laux, Sue & Mark McGrath, Chris & Tony Martini, Carole & Paul Rich, Laurie & Doug Traut, John Wordeman and Mark Wordeman. What an awesome and fun evening!
CATHOLIC INNER-CITY SCHOOLS COLLECTION ON OCTOBER 3 & 4
Next weekend, we will have a collection for CISE-Catholic Inner-City Schools Education Fund. This collection will benefit Corryville Catholic, Holy Family, St. Boniface, St. Francis DeSales, St. Francis Seraph, St. Joseph, Prince of Peace and Resurrection … providing values for a lifetime! Please use the yellow envelope provided for CISE.
ST. FRANCIS DAY PET BLESSING
Sunday, October 4th is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. In recognition of this Saint who loved all of God’s creation, we will have a special blessing service for pets and animals on Sunday afternoon October 4 at 1:30 p.m. and Monday afternoon October 5 at 2:00 p.m. The Sunday afternoon service will be in the driveway area by the main entrance of the Church and the Monday afternoon service will take place in the upper parking lot by the school. We are looking forward to blessing the variety of dogs, cats, birds, turtles, snakes, goats, horses, etc. that make up the animal kingdom in our parish. If there is rain the day of the Pet Blessing, the blessing will be cancelled.
FIRST FRIDAY-OCTOBER 2
DONUTS & COFFEE AFTER 8:30 AM MASS IN THE CAFETERIA
Please join us for a social after First Friday morning Communion Service.
OCTOBER COUNT
During the month of October, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati requires each parish to keep a count of the number of parishioners attending Sunday Mass. Thanks to all of our Ushers for helping to keep an accurate October Count again this year beginning on October 3 & 4 weekend.
RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has designated October 4th as National Respect Life Sunday. So often our society is openly hostile to life. On any given day the headlines tell of countless acts of violence, murders and abuse. This observance takes on special meaning in light of the many abortions and terrorist attacks that have taken place throughout the world these last number of years. More than ever, we as Christians are called to be the prophetic voices who speak out – defending the sacredness of life in all of its dimensions. May we never forget that all life is a gift from God.
RETREAT
I will be on retreat the week of September 28-October 2. I will be at St. Meinrad Archabbey in Indiana. During the days that I am away, a Communion Service will be held at 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel, on Wednesday, September 30, Fr. Michael Davis will celebrate Mass in Church.
Please pray for me – and each of you and the intentions of our parish will be in my prayers as I spend several days on Retreat.
WAYS TO ENHANCE YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE SUNDAY LITURGY
Take time to make Sunday truly a Sabbath – a day of rest that is different from the other days of the week. Make the Liturgy the centerpiece of your day.
-Fr. George Kunkel

DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
SVF GIFT CARDS
St. Vincent Ferrer Parish receives 4-12% of every dollar spent on gift cards purchased here. This is a great way to raise money without costing you any more then you are already spending. Use our SVF gift cards for your regular purchases or as gifts for family, teachers and friends.
Beginning September 29, parishioners can purchase and order gift cards at the parish office. You are welcome to come to the office TUE-FRI between 9am - 3pm. There is a wide selection of cards available in inventory; an updated list is online at www.svfchurch.org/GLSClist.pdf
Parishioners may also drop off order forms for cards not in inventory at the
parish office. Orders received by the 20th of each month will be available for
pick-up in the Parish Office on the first Tuesday of the following month. On
select weekends beginning in October, Development Commission members and
volunteers will sell gift cards outside of church after all Masses. Watch the
bulletin next week for a listing of all days when cards will be sold after Mass.
