SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
A
magnet draws certain objects to itself. Jesus
tells a parable about how, like magnets, people can be drawn toward
self-interests and thinking of themselves first.
Many things are like magnets that draw us to think first of ourselves
instead of the needs of others. Worries
about our reputation, financial security, and personal comfort can draw us
toward the things the world considers important – and away from real and
lasting security in the Kingdom of God.
Prayer
Moment: When I long for and fret over the
things of this world, Lord, pull my heart toward the security of your goodness.
PASTOR’S
DESK
Stewardship Sunday
is September 23
Stewardship is gratitude in
action; by sharing what we have (time, talent, treasure), we acknowledge our own
dependence on the Lord, our indebtedness to His goodness, our awareness of His
kindness and our call to serve as agents of His care of others.
All registered SVF parishioners should have received a copy of the
financial report for the past fiscal year.
RETREAT
I will be on retreat the week of September 24-28. During the
days that I am away a Communion Service will be held each morning at 8:30 a.m.
in the Chapel. On Wednesday September 26th
there will be a school Mass at 8:30 a.m. in the Church - Fr. Chris Coleman
will celebrate Mass. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will be held on Monday September 24th
from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Please pray for me – and each of you and the intentions of
our parish will be in my prayers as I spend several days on Retreat.
ST.
FRANCIS DAY PET BLESSING
Thursday, October 4th
is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. In
recognition of this saint who loved all of God’s creation, we will have a
special blessing service for pets and animals on Wednesday
evening October 3 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday afternoon October 4 at 2:00 p.m.
The Wednesday evening service will be in the driveway area by the
main entrance of the Church. The Thursday afternoon service will take place in
the upper parking lot by the school.
We are looking forward to blessing the variety of dogs, cats, birds,
turtles, snakes, goats, horses, etc. that make up the animal kingdom in our
parish.
OCTOBER
COUNT
During the month of
October, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati requires each parish to keep a count of
the number of parishioners attending Sunday Mass. Thanks to all of our Ushers for helping to keep an accurate
October Count again this year beginning on October 6 & 7 weekend.
BINGO
AT ST. VINCENT FERRER WILL RETURN ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON ON OCTOBER 7
Doors
open at 12:30 p.m.; instants are sold at 1:00 p.m.; first Bingo game begins at
1:30 p.m.; Bingo will end by 5:00 p.m.
CAN
YOU HELP COUNT BINGO CARDS
Brenda
Hauser needs 2-3 additional volunteers to count bingo cards. This will be at the
parish, and at your leisure, but we would like a weekly, or bi-weekly
commitment. It's a sitting job, and would be fun to do with a friend, or
daughter/son. Please contact Brenda Hauser for more information at 984-8446,
618-5429, or b.hauser@remax.net.

HELP
MAINTAIN YOUR PARISH
In
your envelopes for September is "Capital Improvement" Special Offering
envelope. These funds will be used
to maintain and improve our parish buildings, grounds and other
facilities. One example is the
parking lot, which is in need of repair and resurfacing.
Even a simple resurfacing will cost over $6,000 - and this is just one of
many improvement projects we need to complete soon.
Please be as generous as you can when making a gift with your Capital
Improvement envelope this month.
ST.
VINCENT FOR THE POOR
Thank
you for the monthly donation of $765 to the St. Vincent for the Poor Society.
Your generosity is appreciated.
COAT
& CLOTHING COLLECTION COMING SOON!
The St. Vincent for the Poor’s annual fall coat, clothing &
canned food drive will be held the weekend of October 27th
& 28th. This

help the needy in doing so. Plan
now!

Please
keep in your prayers all the men and women who are currently in the military
serving our country.

many other scouting units in the area, St. Vincent's Cub Scout Pack 619 will be selling
popcorn throughout the month of September to raise money to fund our local
parish-scouting program. You'll probably see Cub Scouts from other area
packs selling the popcorn door-to-door or at Kroger, but at SVF, the
Cub Scouts take orders first (in September) and then deliver the popcorn in
November, just in time for holiday treats and gift giving. Many
different kinds of popcorn products are available, including gourmet
chocolate-coated and caramel corn in decorative tins, as well as a wide variety of
microwaveable popcorn.
If
you would like to order popcorn to support Catholic Cub Scouting at St. Vincent
Ferrer, please contact Cubmaster George Bryce at mountain4@gmail.com or
489-2792 for more information on items/pricing.
