These

obedient
to the Father, even to death on a

We need never fear if we turn away
from
the path of virtue for the Lord is ever
ready
to forgive us, if we but repent.
Remember,
the Lord’s compassion and

25th SUNDAY IN
ORDINARY TIME
The vineyard owner hired five groups of laborers. Each subsequent group began work later in the day. When the owner hired the first group, they agreed on a fair wage. At the end of the day, he called in the workers and began paying them, the last ones first. Of course, the early morning crew saw the later ones getting a full day’s wage and excitedly anticipated a bonus for themselves. When they were paid, they received only the negotiated amount. “It’s not fair!” was their cry.
Reflection: How many times a day do our children point out that someone got more than they did? Enough, I’m sure, for us to know that today’s Gospel illustrates a human response! But our human ways are not God’s ways. God’s generosity is sometimes beyond our understanding. But imagine what a world it would be if we rejoiced in generosity and good fortune of others.

DESK
FAITHFUL
CITIZENSHIP A MATTER OF CONSCIENCE
On
the weekend of September 27/28 the DVD from the Catholic Bishops office entitled
Faithful Citizenship A Matter Of Conscience will be shown at all Masses at St.
Vincent Ferrer.
In the Catholic Tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue, and
participation in political life is a moral obligation.
According to Pope Benedict XVI, “charity must animate the entire lives
of the lay faithful and therefore also their political activity, lived as
‘social charity’” (Deus
Caritas Est, no. 29).
ARE
YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE…DEADLINE IS OCTOBER
Election
Day is November 4. You can register
to vote at any Public Library, Post Office, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, or any
agency providing public assistance by October 6.
You can print an application from:
http://www.hamilton-co.org/boe/howtoreg.asp

I asked – many responded. A heart felt Thank You to all who made a Capital Improvement contribution last Sunday. Total contributions to our Capital Improvement Fund have topped $25,000. This will help pay for the repairs to the parking lot and the rectory basement, and to replace our permanent parish sign on Montgomery Road (total cost of $45,000). I am very grateful to all who came forward with a gift to this important parish fund.
STEWARDSHIP
SUNDAY on September 20 & 21 will bring to you Confection Connection II in a
tent on the parking lot in front of SVF rectory…
The Organizations
that make St. Vincent Ferrer, "The Best Kept Secret in Kenwood" will
be represented after each Mass. Come for some "Confections" and learn
of the Purpose and Mission of our Parish Organizations. Your involvement is what
will make St. Vincent Ferrer Church... YOUR Living Church.
Fr.
George Kunkel will preach at all the Masses on September 20 & 21 in
connection with Stewardship Sunday.
Those not actively involved in parish activities will be invited to
“step up to the plate” by signing the 2008-2009
Ministries of Service form. Stewardship is gratitude in action; by sharing
what we have (time, talent, treasure), we acknowledge our own dependence on the
Lord, our indebtedness to His goodness, our awareness of His kindness and our
call to serve as agents of His care of others.
FR.
GEORGE ON RETREAT
Fr. George Kunkel will be on retreat the week of September
22-26. During the days that he is away, a Communion Service will be held at 8:30
a.m. in the Chapel. On
Wednesday, September 24, there will be a
Communion Service at 8:30 a.m. in the Church.
Fr. George will remember each of you and the intentions of
our parish as he spends a few days on Retreat.
SVF
PARISH SECRETARY WILL BE ON VACATION THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 22
Eileen Fritsch, SVF
secretary will be on a well-deserved vacation from September 22 through
September 26. The parish office
will be open the week of September 22 but know that any special requests or
projects will have to wait until Eileen returns on September 29.
ST.
FRANCIS DAY PET BLESSING
Saturday, October 4th
is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. In
recognition of this saint who loved all of God’s creation, we will have a
special blessing service for pets and animals on Friday
afternoon October 3 at 2:00 p.m. and Friday evening October 3 at 6:30 p.m.
The Friday afternoon service will take place in the upper parking lot
by the school. The Friday evening service will be in the driveway area by the
main entrance of the Church. We are
looking forward to blessing the variety of dogs, cats, birds, turtles, snakes,
goats, horses, etc. that make up the animal kingdom in our parish. If
there is rain the day of the Pet Blessing, the blessing will be cancelled.

R.C.I.A ~ Rite for Christian Initiation of Adults
If you have been thinking about becoming Catholic, or if you’ve already been baptized Catholic but did not receive the additional sacraments, perhaps this year would be a good time to find out more about these issues of faith.
R.C.I.A. is a process for adults who desire to know more about the Catholic faith. If you are interested in joining us, or you have any questions please call Karen McMichael at 686-1124, or Fr. George Kunkel at 791-9030.
We look forward to
meeting you!

September 21st. Welcome Teachers and Students!
GREG PIERCE IS COMING
to St. Vincent Ferrer on Wednesday, October 22nd at 7PM.
Save the date!
Noted speaker and author Gregory Pierce will give a talk based on his new book, The Mass is Never Ended: Rediscovering Our Mission to Transform the World.
Using the Dismissal from Mass as his lens. Mr. Pierce will look at the Mass as a “Sending Forth” into our daily lives on our jobs, with our families, and in our community and civic affairs.
Mr. Pierce has a reputation as a passionate and humorous speaker who is able to make the Catholic faith come alive in new ways. He is the publisher of ACTA Publications in Chicago, a husband and father of three college students, a past president of the National Center for the Laity, a rabid Chicago Cubs fan, and the author of the best-selling and award winning book, Spirituality at Work: 10 ways to Balance Your Life On-the-Job.

Improving
Traffic Pattern - To provide
greater safety for our children and to help the traffic pattern on Sunday
mornings at 9:00 AM, we are beginning to use the same pattern that the school
uses on a rainy day. If you are
dropping off a child for the PREP/EC Sunday program, please come in from
Kenwood Road into the larger parking lot, turn right going toward the school,
drop your children off at the main door and proceed around the building either
exiting by the Montgomery Road exit or driving along side of the church toward
Kenwood Rd. If you are parking to
bring your child into the building please follow the same traffic pattern. Thank
you for helping to keep the children safe.

Meggie Abraham, Joey Arthur, Claire Barrett, Olivia Capannari, Julie Chase,
Melissa Eckes, Andy Feltrup, Molly Frost, Mitch Fischer, Matt Hobler, Jack

REBATES! REBATES! REBATES
Please help the SVF PTO raise money to buy playground equipment, school supplies and support educational programs. By collecting UPCs, receipts and redemption labels from products and stores we use everyday, you can help. The following stores and products have rebate programs: IGA – full register receipts; Box tops from General Mills products; Tyson frozen foods UPCs; Campbells labels: Kroger – use Focas 50 cards. A rebate box will be located at the back of church. This is a great way for our school to earn extra money for our extra special children. Thank you - Erika Riggs (coordinator) 891-2568.
