24th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The three parables Jesus tells in today’s Gospel are about God’s constant love, mercy, and forgiveness.  No matter how far we roam from a life of faith, God longs for our return, watches for us, waits for us.  It is hard for our human hearts and minds to comprehend this kind of unconditional love.  It defies our tendency to judge others and ourselves.  Yet, the magnitude of God’s love and forgiveness for every individual person is boundless.

Prayer Moment: God of Love, show me the way of forgiveness – of others and myself.

PASTOR’S DESK

Stewardship Sunday is September 23

Stewardship is gratitude in action; by sharing what we have (time, talent, treasure), we acknowledge our own dependence on the Lord, our indebtedness to His goodness, our awareness of His kindness and our call to serve as agents of His care of others.  In the next few days, all SVF parishioners will receive a copy of the financial report for the past fiscal year.

RETREAT

I will be on retreat the week of September 24-28. During the days that I am away a Communion Service will be held each morning at 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel. On Wednesday September 26th there will be a school Mass at 8:30 a.m. in the Church - Fr. Chris Coleman will celebrate Mass.

Please pray for me – and each of you and the intentions of our parish will be in my prayers as I spend several days on Retreat.

BINGO AT ST. VINCENT FERRER WILL RETURN ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON ON OCTOBER 7

Doors open at 12:30 p.m.; instants are sold at 1:00 p.m.; first Bingo game begins at 1:30 p.m.; Bingo will end by 5:00 p.m.

CAN YOU HELP COUNT BINGO CARDS

Brenda Hauser needs 2-3 additional volunteers to count bingo cards. This will be at the parish, and at your leisure, but we would like a weekly, or bi-weekly commitment. It's a sitting job, and would be fun to do with a friend, or daughter/son. Please contact Brenda Hauser for more information at 984-8446, 618-5429, or b.hauser@remax.net.

                -Fr. George Kunkel

SCHOOL NEWS

Did You Know??

Our PTO recently supported a "Leadership Retreat" for our 8th Grade Class. The students went to Camp Kern, a YMCA facility, to work together on various tasks. The children were put into new, challenging situations that took them out of their "comfort zone"! They ALL did a wonderful job supporting each other and overcoming these new obstacles. It was great to see them encouraging each other and helping one another conquer difficult tasks.

We thank our PTO for their support with this great program and the many other special opportunities they provide for our children and school!

With your help, the students of St. Vincent Ferrer School would like to find out.  For the past several years, the students have been collecting pop can tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House by Children’s Hospital.  This year, we will continue to collect in the hopes of reaching one million and thereby earning a visit from Ronald McDonald himself!  If you can help us with your donation of pop can tabs, please place them in the labeled bin in the back of church.  Thanks in advance for helping with one of our school’s charitable outreach programs.

*** THANK YOU  ***

A public word of thanks to all those who have worked hard all summer to make the SVF grounds "beautiful".  Despite the drought, we have many areas on our campus that shine with the beauty of summer.  Each plot is cared for by a volunteer who loves SVF and gardening.  We encourage everyone on the committee, to make their plot a "prayer garden" where they offer up their time and talent for the good of SVF and it's people.

We invite those of you who never use the Montgomery Road entrance, to drive thru that way to see the many plots on that side of our property.  Visit the Memorial Garden and say a prayer for all parishioners present and past.

Also, you may want to purchase a brick to place in the Memorial Garden walkway to honor your family or loved one.  We hope to place an order before years-end, so contact the parish office if interested.

Thanks again to all our A-A-P ("Adopt-A-Plot") workers.  A couple of plots are still available.

September Brings Cub Scout Popcorn Sale

Like many other scouting units in the area, St. Vincent's Cub Scout Pack 619 will be selling popcorn throughout the month of September to raise money to fund our local parish-scouting program.  You'll probably see Cub Scouts from other area packs selling the popcorn door-to-door or at Kroger, but at SVF, the Cub Scouts take orders first (in September) and then deliver the popcorn in November, just in time for holiday treats and gift giving.   Many different kinds of popcorn products are available, including gourmet chocolate-coated and caramel corn in decorative tins, as well as a wide variety of microwaveable popcorn.

If you would like to order popcorn to support Catholic Cub Scouting at St. Vincent Ferrer, please contact Cubmaster George Bryce at mountain4@gmail.com or 489-2792 for more information on items/pricing.

CALENDAR SCHEDULING FOR 2007-2008

Every group or organization that regularly meets or hosts events should submit to the parish office in writing their desired dates, times and rooms the group wishes to reserve for the 2007-2008 year (July 2007-June 2008).  Please list a contact person who will be responsible for clean up and security and if set-up time is needed.  Should any conflicts arise throughout the year this person will be contacted.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

BULLETIN DEADLINES

Dee Printing, the publisher of our bulletin would like to re-emphasize the importance of deadlines.  In order for them to provide us with a professionally printed bulletin we need to receive all articles in writing by Monday at 3:00 p.m. You should indicate the dates you would like your bulletin article to appear.  Unless otherwise indicated, all articles will run for 2 weeks.

BULLETIN INSERTS

Please call the parish office to get your bulletin insert on the calendar.  All inserts must be put on the insert calendar as soon as possible. (The number of inserts are limited to 2 per week) and the copies need to be in the Parish office by Thursday morning.  This will allow the bulletin stuffers ample time to adjust their calendar for volunteer time.  A special thanks to our volunteer bulletin stuffers, we appreciate your help!
