These
Scriptures proclaim: How different
are
the Lord’s ways from our own! Gracious
and
good to all, the Lord is equally generous in
compassion
and love to both those who are
quick
to respond to his invitation, as well as
those
who are slow to hear his call. May

24th SUNDAY IN
ORDINARY TIME
John 3:16 is quoted often and many people claim it as their favorite passage in the entire Bible. It is where John tells us that God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that those who believed would have eternal life. This passage expresses the essence of God’s love for us. Jesus came to witness how we should live and to show us the deep love God has for us.
Reflection: Sometimes it seems there is no end to the sadness and trouble that surrounds us. We may have friends, neighbors or even family members, who are seriously ill, struggling with relationships, out of work, in prison, or victims of other people’s sinfulness. How is it that we don’t fall into a pit of despair from which we cannot escape? The answer is in the meaning of today’s Gospel. Because God loves us and gave us his only Son so that we might return to God, we do not lose hope. Not because we earned or deserve God’s love, but because God loves us so much, we will share God’s eternal life.
PASTOR’S
DESK
STEWARDSHIP
SUNDAY on September 23 & 24 will bring to you Confection Connection II in a
tent on the parking lot in front of SVF rectory…
The Organizations
that make St. Vincent Ferrer, "The Best Kept Secret in Kenwood" will
be represented after each Mass. Come for some "Confections" and learn
of the Purpose and Mission of our Parish Organizations. Enclosed in this
week’s bulletin, is a listing of all the Parish Organizations. Take some time,
before next weekend, to look over and consider getting involved in one of these
Groups. Your involvement is what will make St. Vincent Ferrer Church... YOUR
Living Church.
Fr.
George Kunkel will preach at all the Masses on September 23 & 24 in
connection with Stewardship Sunday.
Those not actively involved in parish activities will be invited to
“step up to the plate” by signing the 2008-2009
Ministries of Service form. Stewardship is gratitude in action; by sharing
what we have (time, talent, treasure), we acknowledge our own dependence on the
Lord, our indebtedness to His goodness, our awareness of His kindness and our
call to serve as agents of His care of others.
RETREAT
I will be on retreat the week of September 22-26. During the
days that I am away a Communion Service will be held at 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel.
On Wednesday, September 24,
there will be a Communion Service at 8:30 a.m. in the Church.
Please pray for me – and each of you and the intentions of
our parish will be in my prayers as I spend several days on Retreat.
At the opening school Mass we blessed a beautiful icon of St. Paul that SVF parish has purchased for use during his Jubilee year of St. Paul. The Icon will be used as a source of prayers and reflection in church and during scripture related parish activities. Let us look to St. Paul as a model for our lives finding courage to remain faithful and to speak the Gospel with our lives.
Every
parish family received a letter from Fr. George describing $45,000 in repairs
and maintenance to our parish property. Please
use your gray "Capital Improvement" envelope dated September 14 to
help our parish cover these costs. No
donation is too small. Together, we
can share the burden of keeping St. Vincent Ferrer Parish in good repair.

GREG PIERCE IS COMING
to St. Vincent Ferrer on Wednesday, October 22nd at 7PM.
Save the date!
Noted speaker and author Gregory Pierce will give a talk based on his new book, The Mass is Never Ended: Rediscovering Our Mission to Transform the World.
Using the Dismissal from Mass as his lens. Mr. Pierce will look at the Mass as a “Sending Forth” into our daily lives on our jobs, with our families, and in our community and civic affairs.
Mr. Pierce has a reputation as a passionate and humorous speaker who is able to make the Catholic faith come alive in new ways. He is the publisher of ACTA Publications in Chicago, a husband and father of three college students, a past president of the National Center for the Laity, a rabid Chicago Cubs fan, and the author of the best-selling and award winning book, Spirituality at Work: 10 ways to Balance Your Life On-the-Job.
