SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
The
Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ brings us peace, comfort, hope, and the promise
of eternal life. Jesus tells us in
today’s Gospel that he also brings division.
Jesus came to light the fire of truth at whatever cost.
As people of Christ, we, too, light the fire of truth – and this may
cost us dearly. Our daily choices
will be influenced by the Gospel – and so some choices will not be popular.
With love for all, we must deal with this discord.
The cost for truth, for Jesus, was the cross.
That will be our cost as well.
Living
the Word: What
kind of situation or person might cause you to compromise your Gospel values?

ST.
VINCENT FOR THE POOR
Our
next-door collection for our St. Vincent for the Poor Society will take place
this weekend August 18 & 19. The
baskets will be in the back of Church. Your
generosity is appreciated.
DID
YOU KNOW?
Are you age 70 ½ or older? Do you have
a traditional IRA? If so, you know that you must receive a minimum
distribution from your IRA each year, and pay taxes on that distribution.
But
did you know that recent legislation allows you to take a distribution during
2007 and NOT pay taxes on it – by donating it to St. Vincent Ferrer Parish?
This can be a big help, both to the Parish and to your tax bill! Contact the
Parish Business Manager, Marc Greenberg, at 791-9030 for more information.
FOCAS
50
Year 3 Results are in:
$32,100
this year -- Grand Total $98,200
For
the third year in a row, the FOCAS 50 program has generated over
$32,000 for our parish and school thanks to the generosity of Kroger and the
steadfast support and dedication of about 200 parishioners who faithfully use
their Kroger FOCAS 50 gift cards to pay for their groceries,
prescriptions and gasoline.
Year
1 (July 1, 2004 - June 30, 2005) = $33,000
Year 2
(July 1, 2005 - June 30, 2006) = $33,100
Year 3
(July 1, 2006 - June 30, 2007) = $32,100
Are
you a Kroger shopper who is not using a FOCAS 50 card every
time you shop? Remember that Kroger donates directly to St. Vincent 4% of
all the money loaded onto FOCAS 50 cards. Since starting the
program in July 2004, this has resulted in an average check of $2,500 every four
weeks -- at no additional out-of-pocket cost to our parishioners.
If
you're new to the program, here’s
how it works:
· Pick
up a reusable
FOCAS
50
Kroger Gift Card at
the parish office.
· Load
the gift card with
as much money as you wish at the Kroger service desk or at the register before
they start scanning your groceries. You
may use cash, check or credit card to load it.
· Use
the card to pay for your groceries, prescriptions, and gasoline.
You may spend all or part of the preloaded amount. Any remaining balance
will be printed out on your receipt.
· Reload
the card each time you shop at Kroger.
The FOCAS 50-gift card may be used in conjunction with Kroger Plus
discount cards.

Please
keep in your prayers all the men and women who are currently in the military
serving our country.
In
The Hospital or Recovering at Home:
So
that as a parish we can keep in our prayers those in our community who are ill,
St. Vincent Ferrer Parish would like to publish the names of those parishioners
and their families who are in the hospital, recovering from an illness or going
through treatments. We ask that you
contact the Parish Office at 791-9030.
