20th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The Good News of Jesus is that salvation is for all people.  Today’s Gospel shows us this joyful truth.  A Canaanite woman whose people worship other gods has come to believe in Jesus.  She turns her heart from what is acceptable in her culture and puts her faith in Jesus.  In reaching out to this woman, Jesus shows his followers the full inclusive breadth of his Father’s kingdom.  Jesus’ love and the gift of eternal life that we have in him are available to everyone – everyone!

Prayer Moment: Dear God, in everything I do, may I convey to others the unfathomable depth and breadth of your love.

PARKING LOT UPDATE

We have completed one-half of our parking lot repairs.   The parking lot will close again starting Monday, August 18, so we can finish this work.  The completely renovated parking lot will reopen Saturday August 23 for weekend Masses.  During the week it is closed, you will be able to reach Communion Services, weekday Masses and the parish office only from the Montgomery Road entrance.  Thank you to everyone for your patience as we complete repairs to our parking lot.

LITURGY SURVEY FOR ST. VINCENT FERRER ON AUGUST 23 & 24

What is your experience from attending Sunday Mass at St. Vincent Ferrer?  Before Masses, on the weekend of August 23 & 24 Fr. George will invite those attending Mass to fill out a survey concerning your experience of worshipping at SVF.  For example, we would like your input on this question… Would you attend a 10:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass with prelude carols as opposed to a midnight Mass?  We want to hear from you next weekend.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Paper Recycling—This is our second anniversary of our Paper Recycling Program, SJ&O Commission would like to thank all SVF parishioners, faculty and staff who continue to make this program a success.  By bringing your paper trash to the green and yellow bin next to the school, you are supporting SJ&O activities as well as helping the environment.  We receive about $100 from Abitibi each month that we then use to sponsor mission work and to help support SVF projects. Thank you!!

Recycle Bins - New Location (Temporarily)

The green and yellow paper-recycling bin (and the smaller can recycling bin) has temporarily been moved to the back of the Parish Center, where the parish garage doors are located.  This is to make way for some repairs to the main parking lot.  The recycling bins will be returned to their usual location after the repairs are completed in the end of August.

ALUMINUM CAN RECYCLING

St. Vincent Ferrer Parish recycles empty aluminum beverage cans.  The can recycling container is located next to the paper-recycling bin. We only accept beverage cans (soda, beer, juice) - no soup cans, sauce cans or other types of cans please.  Please make sure your cans are rinsed and completely empty before putting them in our container.

HAPPY WANDERERS

Yearly membership dues of $10.00 are now being accepted throughout the summer.  Make checks payable to SVF and mail or drop off at the Parish Office (mark envelope H.W.)

Hey, boys!  Are you ready for some scouting?  SVF's award-winning Cub Scout Pack is ready to kick-off another year of fun, games, camping, and outdoor activities, all within the context of a Catholic scouting unit.   Pack 619 is open to any boy in the parish in grades 1-5.  The first pack meeting of the year is Friday, September 5 at 7:00 pm and boys are encouraged to attend with a parent.   An outdoor campfire meeting is planned; contact Cubmaster George Bryce at mountain4@gmail.com or 489-2792 for location/directions or more information.

Religious Emblem Program Open to All Parish Cub Scouts

If your son is a member of a Cub Scout pack at a public school or in the community, but would like to work on his Light of Christ (1st or 2nd grade) or Parvuli Dei (3rd, 4th or 5th grade) Catholic religious emblem, we can help!  Remember that all boys who complete the Parvuli Dei requirements by mid-December are invited to a special presentation ceremony at the Cathedral at the end of January -- so this is a great time to get started on the booklet.   Contact Pack 619's Religious Emblem Coordinator, Jamie Eifert at jke84nd@aol.com or 563-7866 for more information on either program.

OTHER PARISH NEWS

LAWN MAINTENANCE MINISTRY

Have you seen parishioners cutting our parish grass during the week?  They are the newest St. Vincent Ferrer Parish ministry: Lawn Maintenance.  Six parish members are on the team right now.  They cut the grass and do all the trimming in the fields and around our buildings.  This takes a big workload off our maintenance employees, allowing them to get the school and other buildings cleaned and ready for the fall.  The six on the team are: Barry Auer, Jim McGrath, Mark Mitchell, Charlie Niehaus, John Rush and Dick Thiery.  Barry Auer chairs and coordinates the team.  These parishioners get a big St. Vincent Ferrer "Thank You" for their work in support of our parish.

Got some time during the day?  Want to join the Lawn Maintenance Ministry team?  Call Barry Auer at 984-1041 for more information.

DRIVERS ARE NEEDED

The SVF Driving Ministry is looking for a few more volunteers to help transport parishioners to and from the 5PM Saturday Mass. If you would be able to commit to one Saturday a month, or even once every other month, that would surely help.  If Sundays are better, we could use you for the 9AM or the 12noon Mass as well.  Please contact Donna Piening, 791-7449.
