SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Many
of us fear the future, to some degree. What
if we are hurt or get sick and can’t work?
What if our home is destroyed or we lose our savings?
Jesus tells his disciples to sell their belongings, give alms, and
provide money bags for themselves that do not wear out.
This continues Jesus’ teachings in last week’s Gospel about the
treasures that have true significance. Because
we have been given much-the Father is pleased to give us the Kingdom of
Heaven-we give to God in return our faithful confidence and loving service.
Living
the Word: Name
your greatest fear and form a prayer that entrusts your fear to God’s love and
care.

DID
YOU KNOW?
Are you age 70 ½ or older? Do you have
a traditional IRA? If so, you know that you must receive a minimum
distribution from your IRA each year, and pay taxes on that distribution.
But
did you know that recent legislation allows you to take a distribution during
2007 and NOT pay taxes on it – by donating it to St. Vincent Ferrer Parish?
This can be a big help, both to the Parish and to your tax bill! Contact the
Parish Business Manager, Marc Greenberg, at 791-9030 for more information.
FOCAS
50
Year 3 Results are in:
$32,100
this year -- Grand Total $98,200
For
the third year in a row, the FOCAS 50 program has generated over
$32,000 for our parish and school thanks to the generosity of Kroger and the
steadfast support and dedication of about 200 parishioners who faithfully use
their Kroger FOCAS 50 gift cards to pay for their groceries,
prescriptions and gasoline.
Year
1 (July 1, 2004 - June 30, 2005) = $33,000
Year 2
(July 1, 2005 - June 30, 2006) = $33,100
Year 3
(July 1, 2006 - June 30, 2007) = $32,100
Are
you a Kroger shopper who is not using a FOCAS 50 card every
time you shop? Remember that Kroger donates directly to St. Vincent 4% of
all the money loaded onto FOCAS 50 cards. Since starting the
program in July 2004, this has resulted in an average check of $2,500 every four
weeks -- at no additional out-of-pocket cost to our parishioners.
If
you're new to the program, here’s
how it works:
· Pick
up a reusable
FOCAS
50
Kroger Gift Card at
the parish office.
· Load
the gift card with
as much money as you wish at the Kroger service desk or at the register before
they start scanning your groceries. You
may use cash, check or credit card to load it.
· Use
the card to pay for your groceries, prescriptions, and gasoline.
You may spend all or part of the preloaded amount. Any remaining balance
will be printed out on your receipt.
· Reload
the card each time you shop at Kroger.
The FOCAS 50-gift card may be used in conjunction with Kroger Plus
discount cards.

Please
keep in your prayers all the men and women who are currently in the military
serving our country.

that as a parish we can keep in our prayers those in our community who are ill,
St. Vincent Ferrer Parish would like to publish the names of those parishioners
and their families who are in the hospital, recovering from an illness or going
through treatments. We ask that you
contact the Parish Office at 791-9030.

If you have been thinking about becoming Catholic, updating your Catholic faith or being confirmed, perhaps this summer would be a good time to find out more about these issues of faith. Here at St. Vincent we have “GIFT” which is a “come and see” process for adults who desire to know more about the Catholic faith. Our sessions begin in late August. For more information please call the Director of Faith Formation, Karen McMichael, at 686-1124, or Fr. George Kunkel at 791-9030.

Code: Bereavement
Healing,
as a process, involves more than medical professionals and a patient.
It is a spiritual concern. It
is also a community concern. The
way communities support or fail to support those among them who are sick or in
need often determines whether real healing ever takes place.
Today, churches and similar groups are learning how to support and
sustain those who are ill, grieving, or otherwise laid low.
Written by medical and pastoral professionals, psychologists and former
patients, this volume is a handbook for those who visit the sick or needy,
whether in hospitals or at home.
Part
one of the book considers the nature of illness as a medical and as a spiritual
condition. When coping with
physical breakdown or the loss of ability, the whole person cries out in pain.
A new source of hope must be found.
Part two considers particular issues for compassionate visitors:
the art of listening, the cost of sharing oneself, matters of
confidentiality, and specific concerns about medical conditions.
Part three explores the creation and support of a volunteer visitation
program, where volunteers can be found, and how can they sustain each other.
SOCIAL
JUSTICE
BREADRUNNERS
If
you want to make a difference and serve the poor then Breadrunners is looking
for you. We are in desperate need of Jesus' followers who are willing to
feed the hungry by picking up bread and food products on Wednesdays. We
have three Wednesday vacancies every month, if you can give even one
Wednesday a month that would help. Please call Marley at 792-0110 or
328-6022 or email her at msbelair2@yahoo.com
"I'LL
HELP IF I CAN"
Looking
for volunteers who've said the above quote and who really mean it!
Our
SVF parish DRIVING MINISTRY is alive and well but could surely use
additional "driving" parishioners on our roster. Right now, we take those who cannot drive themselves, to Mass
on the weekends and to their Doctor's appointments throughout the week.
Many requests come in and since we surely need one another, we could use
you're help. Once a month, once a
week, whatever you could offer, we would welcome your efforts. Please call Donna
Piening, 791-7449.
EASTSIDE
COALITION OF HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

program, come out to 690 Glenwood Avenue, right next door to the homes we built
last year. If you don’t know how
to build a house but would like to learn, here’s your chance! And it’s also your opportunity to make a profound
difference in the life of one family. Please
call Peter Broome at 984-2473 for more information.
