19th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Today’s Gospel gives us spiritual security for two of life’s most difficult situations: when we carry great burdens and when our faith feels weak.  When we are burdened with problems, Jesus reaches out to us as he did to Peter.  Also, when our faith feels weak and shallow, Jesus is with us.  Even Peter – the person to whom Jesus will entrust the leadership of the infant Church – knew times of wavering faith.  Yet, Jesus loved him dearly.  In our own times of wavering faith, we know ourselves equally loved.

Prayer Moment: Lord Jesus, take my hand.  Be my security in difficult times and secure me in faith.

PASTOR’S DESK

HOLY DAY MASSES ON FRIDAY AUGUST 15 FOR THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY

Masses will be at 6:30, 8:30 and 10:30 AM in Church.  Due to restrictions from our provider for electricity we cannot turn on the air conditioner on weekday evenings.  We will not have an evening Mass for the Holy Day on August 15.

Evening Masses for the Holy Day on August 15 will be celebrated at:

St. Saviour (Blue Ash) 7:00 p.m.

            All Saints (Montgomery) 7:00 p.m.

            St. Gertrude (Madeira) 7:30 p.m.

PARKING LOT UPDATE

We have completed one-half of our parking lot repairs.  The patches you see in the lot have to dry for a few weeks.  Once the patches are dry, we will seal the entire lot and repaint the parking stripes.  It is OK to park on the patches while they dry.  The parking lot will close again starting

Monday, August 18, so we can finish this work.  The completely renovated parking lot will reopen Saturday August 23 for weekend Masses.  During the week it is closed, you will be able to reach the parish office only from the Montgomery Road entrance.  Thank you to everyone for your patience as we complete repairs to our parking lot.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION SIGN-UPS NEEDED FOR MONDAYS FROM 12 NOON UNTIL 1:00 P.M.

If you are willing to help with Eucharistic Adoration between 12 noon and 1:00 p.m. on Mondays – call Eileen Fritsch, our Parish Secretary, at 791-9030.

VOCATION VIEW

Jesus is with us to help us do what may seem impossible.  Have faith that you will not sink.  Listen for his voice of encouragement.

NO PARISH ENVELOPES?

Some St. Vincent Ferrer families did not receive their package of envelopes for July, August and September.  We have checked with our supplier, and the supplier is checking with the post office.  Meanwhile, you can use a plain white envelope.  Put your name and parish envelope number on it (call the parish office if you need your envelope number), write what the donation is for (Sunday collection, debt reduction, etc.), and drop it in the Sunday collection basket.  If you want us to make up some temporary envelopes for you, call the parish office.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

R.C.I.A ~ Rite for Christian Initiation of Adults

If you have been thinking about becoming Catholic, or if you’ve already been baptized Catholic but did not receive the additional sacraments, perhaps this year would be a good time to find out more about these issues of faith.

R.C.I.A. is a process for adults who desire to know more about the Catholic faith.  A Come & See Night is scheduled for August 11th at 8:00 PM in Hamilton Hall of our Parish Center.

(See flyers in the rear of church.)  If you are interested in attending please call 791-9030.  Leave your name and phone number so we know to expect you.  If you have questions, either Karen McMichael or Fr. George Kunkel will be glad to provide the answers.

We look forward to meeting you!

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Paper Recycling—This is our second anniversary of our Paper Recycling Program, SJ&O Commission would like to thank all SVF parishioners, faculty and staff who continue to make this program a success.  By bringing your paper trash to the green and yellow bin next to the school, you are supporting SJ&O activities as well as helping the environment.  We receive about $100 from Abitibi each month that we then use to sponsor mission work and to help support SVF projects. Thank you!!

Recycle Bins - New Location (Temporarily)

The green and yellow paper-recycling bin (and the smaller can recycling bin) has temporarily been moved to the back of the Parish Center, where the parish garage doors are located.  This is to make way for some repairs to the main parking lot.  The recycling bins will be returned to their usual location after the repairs are completed in the end of August.

ALUMINUM CAN RECYCLING

St. Vincent Ferrer Parish recycles empty aluminum beverage cans.  The can recycling container is located next to the paper-recycling bin. We only accept beverage cans (soda, beer, juice) - no soup cans, sauce cans or other types of cans please.  Please make sure your cans are rinsed and completely empty before putting them in our container.

OTHER PARISH NEWS

LAWN MAINTENANCE MINISTRY

Have you seen parishioners cutting our parish grass during the week?  They are the newest St. Vincent Ferrer Parish ministry: Lawn Maintenance.  Six parish members are on the team right now.  They cut the grass and do all the trimming in the fields and around our buildings.  This takes a big workload off our maintenance employees, allowing them to get the school and other buildings cleaned and ready for the fall.  The six on the team are: Barry Auer, Jim McGrath, Mark Mitchell, Charlie Niehaus, John Rush and Dick Thiery.  Barry Auer chairs and coordinates the team.  These parishioners get a big St. Vincent Ferrer "Thank You" for their work in support of our parish.

Got some time during the day?  Want to join the Lawn Maintenance Ministry team?  Call Barry Auer at 984-1041 for more information.

DRIVERS ARE NEEDED

The SVF Driving Ministry is looking for a few more volunteers to help transport parishioners to and from the 5PM Saturday Mass.
