14th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

In today’s fast-paced world, we sometimes get completely worn out. Yet, we feel like there is no time and nowhere to find quiet and rest.  Jesus tells us where the deep rest of heart, soul, and spirit can be found – and it isn’t at some spa, resort, or vacation spot.  Rather, “Come to me”, Jesus says, “all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest”.  We can – and must – take measures to slow down the fast pace of our daily lives.  But only in Jesus will we find the lasting peace that brings the rest of an easy yoke and a light burden.

Prayer Moment: I lean into your arms, Jesus, where I find the peace for which I long.

PASTOR’S DESK

FESTIVAL 2008

Festival 2008 is now part of our SVF history and we have good memories of a very enjoyable weekend.

A special “thank you” to the many dedicated workers and volunteers along with our entire parish staff who made these three days not only a successful fundraiser but also a great parish celebration.

Our chairperson, Patti Lowe and her booth captains did a super job planning and organizing the event.

Most of all, we are very grateful to the Lord for helping us dodge the storms for the weekend and for the generosity of so many people who supported the festival.

Gross income (before expenses) for the 2008 Parish Festival is approximately $128,890.  This is a 6% increase total from the 2007 festival. We are grateful the Festival was a success.

Our congratulations and best wishes go out to: Dave Dumford, who won the prize of the Pontiac G6 Hardtop Convertible (2 year lease) or $10,000 and to the second place winner of $1000, Glenn Bathalter and third place winner of $250 gas card – Pamela Gross. We hope they enjoy their winnings!

PRACTICAL WAYS TO MAKE THE MOST OF THIS PAULINE JUBILEE YEAR

READ…Make a commitment to spend time each day (week) reading from the letters of St. Paul and the Acts of the Apostles which tells about Paul’s ministry.

BE CONVERTED…Reflect anew on the need for ongoing radical conversion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and draw more frequently on the support given us in the Sacraments of Penance and the Eucharist.

MAKE A PILGRIMAGE…Visit a church dedicated to St. Paul – the closest to us is St. Peter and Paul in Reading (see masstimes.org)

MISSION APPEAL – SECOND COLLECTION

A Missionary Appeal for the Diocese of Catarman in the Philippines will be held on the weekend of July 12-13.  Rev. Michael Semana will preach at all of the weekend Masses at SVF.  This appeal is to help with relief needs of children and the poor and formation of lay leaders. Catarman diocese is one of the poorest in the Philippines.  Please be generous.

ROOM "B" REMODELED…

With Help from Our Friends

Room B in the Parish Center (also known as the old Music Room) is getting a new look.  Many of our parish ministries meet there.  There is a fresh coat of paint and new pictures on the walls.  In July, the old carpet will be torn out, and a new tile floor installed.  New blinds will finish the job.  Stop in later in July to see our bright, new meeting room.  Thank you to Jim McCormick, our Music Director, for painting the room.  And a special thank you to a St. Vincent Ferrer parishioner (who has asked to remain anonymous) who provided the funds for the paint, the blinds and the new flooring.

                -Fr. George Kunkel

CALENDAR SCHEDULING FOR 2008-2009

EVERY group or organization that regularly meets or hosts events at SVF should submit to the parish office in writing their desired dates, times and room the group wishes to reserve for the 2008-2009 year (August-June).  Please list a contact person who will be responsible for clean up and security and if set-up time is needed.  Should any conflicts arise throughout the year this person will be contacted.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

On Saturday, July 12, all are invited to participate in “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship” A Call to Political Responsibility” from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at St. Andrew Church in Milford.  Joan Rosenhauer, Associated Director of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development, will articulate the message of the US bishop’ landmark document, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship. In the spirit of the Church’s “Year of St. Paul”, who often preached on the relationship between Church & State, she will explain how Catholics are to form their consciences as we live out our obligation to vote and participate in the political life of our local communities and nation.  We encourage you to consider taking time out of your busy schedule and come to this event.  To RSVP or for further information, contact the Catholic Social Action at 421-3131, ext 2660 or csa@catholiccincinnati.org

FESTIVAL 2008

THANK YOU THANK YOU...to everyone who came and supported our festival. What a wonderful weekend. To all who said prayers, turned Mary toward St. Vincent...the rain came and went when it was suppose to and we had the best weather that we could have asked for. To the men who held down the Bid-n-Buy tent on Saturday night, you saved the day,
when the major storm hit. I can't thank you enough for hanging on to the tent. Shawn and Joel Pence did such a wonderful job on that booth, and worked so hard to make it so successful being outside. To all of the booth captains, new and experienced.... without you this festival would not have been as fun and enjoyable as it turned out to be. To the many volunteers who stepped up and helped in all the booths, we couldn't have continued on through the nights without you. Congratulations to the winners of the Grand Raffle: 1st place – Dave Dumford; 2nd place -Glenn Bathalter; 3rd place – Pamela Gross.  Finally, I would like to thank the Parish Office staff who guided me through my first festival - to Pat Connor, who was always there when I had a question - to Quoi Au and his family for being there on Friday and Saturday night to help with all the small details. St. Vincent Parish members, we did it!  Many people now know how welcoming our parish is and we all should feel very blessed that St. Vincent's will continue on in the future.

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS SIGN AT

ST. VINCENT FERRER?

This sign tells you that there is an AED in the building.  An AED is an Automated External Defibrillator.  It is a machine that can help save a life.  This sign at the entrance to the Community Building alerts everyone that we have an AED there.  The AED is located directly across from the entrance to the parish office in the hallway of the Community Building.  It is behind a locked glass case next to the fire extinguisher.  You break the glass to get the AED in an emergency medical situation for someone who loses consciousness and has no pulse.  Many people already know how to use the AED.  This may be important if you are coaching, helping with concessions or are attending an event. Please share this information with your entire family.

DRIVERS ARE NEEDED

The SVF Driving Ministry is looking for a few more volunteers to help transport parishioners to and from the 5PM Saturday Mass. If you would be able to commit to one Saturday a month, or even once every other month, that would surely help.  If Sundays are better, we could use you for the 9AM or the 12noon Mass as well.  Please contact Donna Piening, 791-7449

BINGO AT ST. VINCENT FERRER

Doors open at 11:30 a.m.; concession provided; instants are sold at 1:00 p.m.; first Bingo game begins at 1:30 p.m.; Bingo will end by 5:00 p.m.  Bingo questions call 324-3788.

BULLETIN INSERTS

Please call the parish office to get your bulletin insert on the calendar.  All inserts must be put on the insert calendar as soon as possible. (The number of inserts are limited to 2 per week) and the copies need to be in the Parish office by Wednesday morning.  This will allow the bulletin stuffers ample time to adjust their calendar for volunteer time.  A special thanks to our volunteer bulletin stuffers, we appreciate your help!
