17th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

In the two parables we hear in today’s Gospel, people find great treasures – a treasure buried in a field and a priceless jewel.  Each person takes what might seem like extreme measures to claim the treasure as his own.  The Kingdom of Heaven is like these treasures – and we, ourselves, have found it.  Are we as willing to give up everything to claim the joy and delight of the Kingdom of Heaven, as are the people in Jesus’ parables?

Prayer Moment: May we grow to understand what it means to be willing to give up everything to claim the priceless treasure of the kingdom.

PASTOR’S DESK

PARISH BREAK IN on Saturday July 19

We had a break in at the Parish on July 19.  The entry was limited to the Parish Center.  There was no entry to the church or school.  Most of the loss is from the effort to break in (broken glass, damaged doors, etc.).  We have identified only one laptop and one camera as stolen from an office.  No cash or checks were taken.  Hamilton County Sheriffs have investigated and taken fingerprints.  The Parish Office was not entered, due to additional security measures already in place.  Motion detectors that set off an alarm and call the police immediately are already in place to protect safes in the

Parish Center.  We are meeting with a security consultant to learn what other steps might be taken.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION SIGN-UPS NEEDED FOR MONDAYS FROM 12 NOON UNTIL 1:00 P.M.

If you are willing to help with Eucharistic Adoration between 12 noon and 1:00 p.m. on Mondays – call Eileen Fritsch, our Parish Secretary, at 791-9030.

FR. GEORGE’S VACATION

CALENDAR SCHEDULING FOR 2008-2009

EVERY group or organization that regularly meets or hosts events at SVF should submit to the parish office in writing their desired dates, times and room the group wishes to reserve for the 2008-2009 year (August-June).  Please list a contact person who will be responsible for clean up and security and if set-up time is needed.  Should any conflicts arise throughout the year this person will be contacted.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

BLOOD DRIVE

Last Saturday fifty donors said “I care” and our summer blood drive collected forty-seven units.  A big “Thank You” goes to all our Good Samaritans.  Our community has an ongoing need for this gift of life.  If you weren’t able to give at this drive please make an appointment at a neighborhood Hoxworth Center by calling (513) 451-0910.

Paper Recycling—On the second anniversary of our Paper Recycling Program, SJ&O Commission would like to thank all SVF parishioners, faculty and staff who continue to make this program a success.  By bringing your paper trash to the green and yellow bin next to the school, you are supporting SJ&O activities as well as helping the environment.  We receive about $100 from Abitibi each month that we then use to sponsor mission work and to help support SVF projects. Thank you!!

Recycle Bins - New Location (Temporarily)

The green and yellow paper-recycling bin (and the smaller can recycling bin) will soon be moved temporarily to the back of the Parish Center, where the parish garage doors are located.  This is to make way for some repairs to the main parking lot.  The recycling bins will be returned to their usual location after the repairs are completed.

ALUMINUM CAN RECYCLING

St. Vincent Ferrer Parish recycles empty aluminum beverage cans.  The can recycling container is located next to the paper-recycling bin. We only accept beverage cans (soda, beer, juice) - no soup cans, sauce cans or other types of cans please.  Please make sure your cans are rinsed and completely empty before putting them in our container.

HAPPY WANDERERS

All persons over 55 are welcome to join us.

Yearly membership dues of $10.00 are now being accepted throughout the summer.  Make checks payable to SVF and mail or drop off at the Parish Office (mark envelope H.W.)

OTHER PARISH NEWS

LAWN MAINTENANCE MINISTRY

Have you seen parishioners cutting our parish grass during the week?  They are the newest St. Vincent Ferrer Parish ministry: Lawn Maintenance.  Six parish members are on the team right now.  They cut the grass and do all the trimming in the fields and around our buildings.  This takes a big workload off our maintenance employees, allowing them to get the school and other buildings cleaned and ready for the fall.  The six on the team are: Barry Auer, Jim McGrath, Mark Mitchell, Charlie Niehaus, John Rush and Dick Thiery.  Barry Auer chairs and coordinates the team.  These parishioners get a big St. Vincent Ferrer "Thank You" for their work in support of our parish.

Got some time during the day?  Want to join the Lawn Maintenance Ministry team?  Call Barry Auer at 984-1041 for more information.
