SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
In
today’s Gospel, what do we hear Jesus say when he tells Martha, “Mary has
chosen the better part”? What is
this teaching? What is Jesus saying? In
raising these questions, we enter into the Gospel as both Martha and Mary.
The questions make us focus on Jesus; both Martha and Mary focus on
Jesus. The questions make us listen
to Jesus; both Martha and Mary listen to Jesus.
The questions express our longing to hear Jesus speak to us; both Martha
and Mary long to hear Jesus speak to them.
Living
the Word: How
are you sometimes Mary in this Gospel? Sometimes
Martha? Sometimes both?

FR.
GEORGE’S VACATION
I will be on vacation beginning on Monday, July 23 and
I will return on Friday, August 4th.
We will have a Communion Service Monday through Friday at 8:00 a.m. in
the Chapel.
Solemn Exposition will be
as usual on Mondays July 23 and July 30.
Next weekend (July 28 & 29) Fathers Mike Seger,
Chris Coleman and Lou Guntzelman will celebrate Saturday confessions and the
weekend Sunday Masses.
BINGO
WILL BE ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN THE FALL AT ST. VINCENT FERRER
St. Vincent has received a
Bingo license from the State of Ohio. During
Sunday Masses in March, 2007 over 200 parishioners volunteered to help work at
Bingo at SVF. Therefore, our Parish
Pastoral Council has given their support to starting Bingo on Sunday afternoons
in the Fall. Details will follow in
the next few weeks.

DID
YOU KNOW?
Are you age 70 ½ or older? Do you have
a traditional IRA? If so, you know that you must receive a minimum
distribution from your IRA each year, and pay taxes on that distribution.
But
did you know that recent legislation allows you to take a distribution during
2007 and NOT pay taxes on it – by donating it to St. Vincent Ferrer Parish?
This can be a big help, both to the Parish and to your tax bill! Contact the
Parish Business Manager, Marc Greenberg, at 791-9030 for more information.

Please
keep in your prayers all the men and women who are currently in the military
serving our country.
In
The Hospital or Recovering at Home:
So
that as a parish we can keep in our prayers those in our community who are ill,
St. Vincent Ferrer Parish would like to publish the names of those parishioners
and their families who are in the hospital, recovering from an illness or going
through treatments. We ask that you
contact the Parish Office at 791-9030.

If you have been thinking about becoming Catholic, updating your Catholic faith or being confirmed, perhaps this summer would be a good time to find out more about these issues of faith. Here at St. Vincent we have “GIFT” which is a “come and see” process for adults who desire to know more about the Catholic faith. Our sessions begin in late August. For more information please call the Director of Faith Formation, Karen McMichael or Fr. George Kunkel at 791-9030.

Discovering
the Lord’s Prayer with
Francis
of Assisi & Thomas Merton
By:
Albert Haase, O.F.M.
Library
Code: Inspirational/Spirituality
Winner
of a Catholic Book Award from the Catholic Press Association of the United
States and Canada, Swimming in the Sun turns to two great spiritual
masters to illustrate the central themes of the Lord’s Prayer.
In this “handbook” to the spiritual life, Franciscan Haase writes
that Francis’ life challenges us to renounce the superficial and superfluous
in our lives, to identify more deeply with the poor and powerless and of
society, and to have a profound, reverent respect for all creation.
Merton’s life, the author says, has become a vehicle for self-discovery
for many contemporary readers.
Rarely
have we experienced so much wisdom, beauty and inspiration presented in such a
short delightful book.
SOCIAL
JUSTICE
"I'LL
HELP IF I CAN"
Looking
for volunteers who've said the above quote and who really mean it!
Our
SVF parish DRIVING MINISTRY is alive and well but could surely use
additional "driving" parishioners on our roster. Right now, we take those who cannot drive themselves, to Mass

Many requests come in and since we surely need one another, we could use
you're help. Once a month, once a
week, PRN on call, whatever you could offer, we would welcome your efforts.
Please
call Donna Piening, 791-7449.
