SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Jesus
calls us to follow him. At times,
he helps us see just how challenging this call can be.
In today’s Gospel, for example, we see attitudes and delay tactics that
become stumbling blocks for those who would otherwise welcome and follow him.
These attitudes and tactics are no less challenging to us today.
Right within our lives, we have opportunities to extend unconditional
hospitality and to respond in the moment to an encounter with Jesus.
Living
the Word: Examine
the many excuses in today’s society that people use to delay or avoid a life
that responds to Jesus’ call to follow him.
PASTOR’S
DESK
FESTIVAL
2007
Festival 2007 is now part
of our SVF history and we have good memories of a very enjoyable weekend.
A special “thank you”
to the many dedicated workers and volunteers along with our entire parish staff
who made these three days not only a successful fundraiser but also a great
parish celebration.
Our chairperson, Sharon
Molinaro and her booth captains did a super job planning and organizing the
event.
Most of all, we are very
grateful to the Lord for giving us good weather for the weekend and for the
generosity of so many people who supported the festival.
Gross income (before
expenses) for the 2007 Parish Festival so far is $121,638.
We are grateful the Festival was a success.
Our congratulations and
best wishes go out to parishioner – Jeanne Pelley,
who won the prize of $10,000 and to the second place winner of the 7-day
Caribbean Cruise, Amy Ruwe. We hope they enjoy their winnings!
CONDOLENCES
TO JUDY VERNY ON THE DEATH OF HER FATHER
Richard
“Tom” Babel who is Judy Verny’s father, died on June 23, 2007.
The funeral Mass was held out of town on June 25.
Please remember them in your prayers.
4th
OF JULY HOLIDAY
Our country celebrates its
231st Independence Day Wednesday, July 4. It seems most appropriate to celebrate Independence Day by
thanking God for all the blessings that have been bestowed on our country.
Mass
will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 4th at 9:00 a.m. in the Church.
All Parish Offices will be closed in observance of the holiday.
-Fr. George Kunkel
VOCATION VIEW
Choose
to follow Jesus wherever he goes. To
say, “yes” without hesitation requires great trust.
The reign of God needs servants to trust.

ST.
VINCENT FOR THE POOR CLOTHING DRIVE
The recent clothing drive for St. Michael’s Community Center was very successful. We collected enough clothing to fill two pick-up trucks and one van. This was in line with what was obtained in our two latest drives. St. Michael’s is eternally grateful, as they are experiencing some hard times currently. Right now their future is rather bleak. Many thanks for your participation, as Margaret from St. Mikes said “God Bless You!”

Please
keep in your prayers all the men and women who are currently in the military
serving our country.
In
The Hospital or Recovering at Home:
So
that as a parish we can keep in our prayers those in our community who are ill,
St. Vincent Ferrer Parish would like to publish the names of those parishioners
and their families who are in the hospital, recovering from an illness or going
through treatments. We ask that you
contact the Parish Office at 791-9030.

Having
a Mary Heart in a Martha World
Finding intimacy with
God in the busyness of life
By:
Joanna Weaver
Library Code:
Spirituality
An
invitation for every woman who’s ever felt she isn’t godly enough, isn’t
loving enough, isn’t doing enough.
The life of a woman today
isn’t really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New
Testament. Like Mary, you long to
sit at the Lord’s feet … but the daily demands of a busy world just won’t
leave you alone. Like Martha, you
love Jesus and really want to serve him … yet you struggle with weariness,
resentment, and feelings of inadequacy.
Then comes Jesus, into the
midst of your busy life, to extend the same invitation he issued long ago to the
two sisters from Bethany. Tenderly,
he invites you to choose “the better part” – a joyful life of intimacy
with him that flows naturally into loving service.
With her fresh approach to
the familiar Bible story, Joanna Weaver shows how all of us – Marys and
Marthas alike – can draw closer to our Lord:
deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with
less stress and greater joy.
ADORATION
OF THE
BLESSED SACRAMENT
Every
Monday, in 30-minute intervals from 8:30AM-5:00PM,committed adorers pray in the
chapel before the Blessed Sacrament. Due
to schedule changes, the time period between 9:30-10:00AM is unassigned and
awaiting your presence. If you, or
you and a friend, happen to be available during this time, and are willing to
devote just a half hour every Monday to accompany the Blessed Sacrament, please
call the Religious Education Office at 791-6321.
Thank
you.

Dear
St. Vincent Ferrer Parishioners,
My
name is Shannon Hughes, 1999 SVF grad, 2003 Ursuline grad, 2007 Xavier grad and
the daughter of parishioners Tom & Heather Hughes. I am writing in order to let you know that after graduating
from Xavier University, I have decided to spend the next two years working with
a program called Jesuit Volunteers International. While living in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, my main
responsibilities will be teaching and facilitating extra-curricular activities
at Assumption High School. Jesuit
Volunteers International is a Catholic, non-profit, tax-exempt organization that
sends men & women to work with people in developing countries around the
globe. As I embark on this journey,
I ask for your support through your thoughts and prayers.
Also, any financial assistance you may be able to offer would be greatly
appreciated. To make a donation to
my efforts in the Marshall Islands: Make out your check, with
my name in the memo, to “Jesuit
Volunteers International” and send it to: PO Box 3756, Washington DC

and click on “Donate Now”. Make
sure to donate to the International
program and include my
name in the notes section of the form.
Thank you in advance for all of your support!

VINCENT DEPAUL FAN DRIVE
Many
of the families we assist live in older apartments without air conditioning.
During the summer the old, sick, and very young suffer terribly in the
heat. Our Fan and Air Conditioner
Drive helps folks like this. Through August 12, you can bring a new fan or air
conditioner to Coney Island and receive a discount on your admission.
All of our six stores will also conveniently be accepting fans and air
conditioners. Or you may make a
monetary donation at any Huntington Bank. Your
generosity will allow us to help so many people in Cincinnati neighborhoods this
summer.
Here’s
another way you can help. Order a Papa John’s pizza on Thursday, July 12th,
and Papa John’s will donate $1 to the St. Vincent de Paul Fan Drive. The
money collected will be used by St. Vincent de Paul to buy fans and air
conditioners.
GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP
Third Thursday of the month – July 19 & August 16 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Saviour Parish. The program is directed by Jan Borgman, Bereavement Coordinator – Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
