In last week's gospel, Jesus sent the apostles out on a mission to teach others what they had been taught by Jesus. Certainly exhausted from their travels, they returned to Jesus who encouraged them to rest alone in a place with no distractions. However, before they could get away, the people found them and would not leave them alone. Rather than being perturbed by the intrusion, Jesus felt compassion for the crowd. To him they were a flock of sheep and he would be their shepherd. They sought knowledge and he would give it to them.

Reflection: The crowds followed Jesus and his disciples even when what Jesus and his friends needed most was solitude. Jesus said they were sheep without a shepherd. So, with a great deal of compassion, he fed them what they needed to know to have eternal life - life where they would never be hungry again. Our children look to us with the same hunger and eagerness as the crowd did in today's gospel. Like Jesus, we can change the shape of our children's lives with our example and words to live by.

A blessing will be given to Mr. Douglas Alpiger, St. Vincent Ferrer School principal, during the 10:30 a.m. Mass on August 16th. Join us for donuts and coffee in Hamilton Hall after Mass. Let us give our new principal a warm SVF welcome.

Father Peter Locher sends his gratitude to the parishioners of SVF for their generosity to the Mission Collection for the Schoenstatt Fathers. The mission appeal collection was $2,912.

"Faithfulness of Christ, Faithfulness of Priests" is the theme of the Year for Priests that began on June 19th, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Holy Father is encouraging everyone to pray for priests, in particular to repeat the

Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be five times, or any other approved prayer in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (see SVF Bulletin) to

ask that priests maintain holiness of life. This year is an invitation to support, encourage and pray for all priests. Each week we will publish the names of 7 of our diocesan priests to pray for in particular. Hopefully by the end of the year we will have prayed for all of our priests and

seminarians in a special way. This week's priests are: (the 7 newly ordained in May 2009)

A PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priests. Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments. Help our priests to be strong in their vocations. Set their souls on fire with love for your people. Grant them the wisdom, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

Inspire them the words they need to spread the Gospel. Allow them to experience joy in their ministry. Help them to become instruments of your divine grace. We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest. Amen.

I will be on vacation beginning on Monday, July 27 and I will return on Friday, August 7^th. We will have Communion Services Monday through Friday at 6:30 & 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel. Solemn Exposition will be as usual on Monday July 27 and August 3. On August 1 & 2, Father Michael Davis and Fr. Lou Guntzelman will celebrate Saturday confessions and the weekend Sunday Masses.

GIFTS OF STOCK TO SVF

Its now easier than ever to donate stock to our parish. As of July 1, 2009, St. Vincent Ferrer Parish has its own stock account at Fifth Third Bank. In the past, donations of stock had to be sold through the Archdiocese. It sometimes took weeks before we received any funds. Now the parish can receive stock directly, and Fifth Third will sell the stock and send us the funds all within a few business days. Please call Marc Greenberg, our Business Manager, for details on using our new stock account. If you have made stock donations in the past, please call Marc to receive new broker instructions.

Please welcome the newest member of our faith community: Lydia Ann Ehrhard, daughter of Joseph & Michelle Ehrhard, who was recently baptized. Congratulations to the proud parents.

that regularly meets or hosts events at SVF should submit to the parish office in writing their desired dates, times and room the group wishes to reserve for the 2009-2010 year (August-June). Please list a contact person who will be responsible for clean up and security and if set-up time is needed. Should any conflicts arise throughout the year this person will be contacted. Parents are expected to attend the program prior to the Baptism of their first child. Godparents are welcome. The program is offered quarterly. The next program will be offered Sunday, August 30th at 1:15 p.m. in the Chapel. Please call the Parish Office to register.

09-10 EC & PREP REGISTRATIONS were due June 30^TH. If you are new to Early Childhood [age 3 by 9-30-09- through Kindergarten] and/or PREP [grades 1-8] you may retrieve the registration info by going online at www.svfchurch.org. 2009-2010 PREP & Early Childhood sessions will take place on Sundays beginning in September from 9:00-10:15AM.

Jeanne Hunt is a familiar name at SVF. She did our parish mission in 2007. She is a teacher and author, and has been a catechetical leader for 25 years.

SVF 1st build contribution for the Habitat 2009 homes is complete!! Thanks to all the hard workers! Jenny Powell's Girl Scout Troop provided a great lunch to the builders. A real team effort from all. Thank you!

Our St. Vincent for the Poor Society is in need of can goods – canned vegetables, canned fruit and potted meats to restock our dwindling food supply. Please place your donations in the barrels in the back of Church.

Are you concerned about the mortgage crisis? Have you seen more empty houses in your community? Do you know of someone who is behind on their mortgage payments or in danger of foreclosure? The Cincinnati Parish Collaborative of the Archdiocesan Catholic Social Action Office and Working In Neighborhoods will sponsor a forum on Tuesday, July 28, 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary Church – Hyde Park (Robisch Hall-undercroft, 2853 Erie Avenue. For further information, contact Working In Neighborhoods at 541-5109, ext 105 or the Catholic Social Action Office at 421-3131, ext. 2660.

Bringing your paper trash to the green and yellow bins next to the school, you are supporting SJ&O activities as well as helping the environment. We receive about $100 from Abitibi each month that we then use to sponsor mission work and to help support SVF projects.

St. Vincent Ferrer Parish recycles empty aluminum beverage cans. The can recycling container is located next to the paper-recycling bin. We only accept beverage cans (soda, beer, juice) - no soup cans, sauce cans or other types of cans please. Please make sure your cans are rinsed and completely empty before putting them in our container.

SVF PTO is sponsoring a yard sale at St. Vincent Ferrer in the Gym on Saturday, August 8 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We are asking parishioners to clean out their closets, basements and attics and donate household items to be sold at the sale. All proceeds will be used on special projects to benefit our SVF school children. Drop-off times for your donations will be before and after 10:30 Mass on July 19, 26 and August 2^nd at the parish garage. We are also looking for volunteers to help tag items before the event and help with set up and tear down. Please call Jodi at 891-5957 if you are able to help!

The sixth graders of our school would like to thank all who have donated pop tabs to our Ronald McDonald House project. We will continue to collect tabs through the summer and into next year in order to reach our goal of one million. We're almost there!

As 2009 Festival Chair, I want to take this opportunity to thank the many people who helped make our St. Vincent Ferrer 2009 Festival a success. There are so many people who contribute to the Festival, and I wish I could list all their names here. I want you all to know how grateful I am for your help and support. A special "SVF Thank You" goes out to our Booth Captains, to our Booth Sponsors, to the Parish Office Staff, to our school children and families, to our PREP children and families, to Pat and Quoi, to Fr.
