15th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

In today’s parable, God is like the farmer; we are like the soil on which the seed – the word of God – is sown.  Some of us are like the hard pathway; God’s word falls on us, but the hard core of selfishness prevents us from accepting it.  Some of us are like the shallow soil; we accept and rejoice in God’s word, but we do nothing to secure it firmly in our lives.  Some of us accept God’s word, but then we allow the weeds of greed to choke it out.  Finally, some of us are like fertile soil; we receive God’s word and let it grow deep and strong in us, so that we produce faith and goodness.

Prayer Moment: Word of God, settle in the good soil of my heart so that the seed of faith can grow strong in others and me.

PASTOR’S DESK

PRACTICAL WAYS TO MAKE THE MOST OF THIS PAULINE JUBILEE YEAR

READ…Make a commitment to spend time each day (week) reading from the letters of St. Paul and the Acts of the Apostles which tells about Paul’s ministry.

BE CONVERTED…Reflect anew on the need for ongoing radical conversion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and draw more frequently on the support given us in the Sacraments of Penance and the Eucharist.

MAKE A PILGRIMAGE…Visit a church dedicated to St. Paul – the closest to us is St. Peter and Paul in Reading (see masstimes.org)

SOCIAL JUSTICE

SVFP CLOTHING DRIVE

The recent St. Vincent for the Poor Clothing Drive was it’s usual success.  We collected three fully loaded large vans with clothing for St. Michaels Center.  St. Mike’s was very grateful as their clothing racks were bare.  St. Mike’s estimates that the clothing brought will be gone in about a week.  Our membership of mostly retirees were grateful to the various children and their parents that answered Dan Funk’s e-mail requesting help.  About twelve children and eight parents did a terrific job.  Many, many thanks to all for their participation.

BLOOD DRIVE

Our summer blood drive will be held on Saturday, July 19, from 10 AM ’til 4 PM in Hamilton Hall.  The tri-state area needs 100,000 units annually.  Please be a Good Samaritan, mark your calendar, and share this gift of life with those in need.  For an appointment or information call Mark Mitchell at (513) 791-0769.

Paper Recycling—On the second anniversary of our Paper Recycling Program, SJ&O Commission would like to thank all SVF parishioners, faculty and staff who continue to make this program a success.  By bringing your paper trash to the green and yellow bin next to the school, you are supporting SJ&O activities as well as helping the environment.  We receive about $100 from Abitibi each month that we then use to sponsor mission work and to help support SVF projects. Thank you!!

ALUMINUM CAN RECYCLING

St. Vincent Ferrer Parish recycles empty aluminum beverage cans.  The can recycling container is located next to the paper-recycling bin. We only accept beverage cans (soda, beer, juice) - no soup cans, sauce cans or other types of cans please.  Please make sure your cans are rinsed and completely empty before putting them in our container.

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS SIGN AT

ST. VINCENT FERRER?

This sign tells you that there is an AED in the building.  An AED is an Automated External Defibrillator.  It is a machine that can help save a life.  This sign at the entrance to the Community Building alerts everyone that we have an AED there.  The AED is located directly across from the entrance to the parish office in the hallway of the Community Building.  It is behind a locked glass case next to the fire extinguisher.  You break the glass to get the AED in an emergency medical situation for someone who loses consciousness and has no pulse.  Many people already know how to use the AED.  This may be important if you are coaching, helping with concessions or are attending an event. Please share this information with your entire family.

DRIVERS ARE NEEDED

BELLS RING FOR PEACE

Archbishop Pilarczyk asked Cincinnati parishes to support the goal of world peace by ringing church bells at 11:00 AM on July 9 and offering prayers for peace. Our St. Vincent Ferrer Parish bells were rung on Wednesday, and Fr.

George offered prayers for peace at Mass Wednesday morning.
