STS. PETER & PAUL, APOSTLES

Today’s solemnity celebrates St. Peter and St. Paul, whose gifts profoundly influenced the early Church.  Jesus states, “You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church.”  Peter will use his gifts to lead the disciples after Jesus’ death, Resurrection, and Ascension.  Paul, a devout Jew determined to wipe out faith in Jesus Christ, encounters the Risen Jesus and becomes known to us as the Apostle to the Gentiles.  Both men use their gifts of faith and leadership to establish the Church and “the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.”

Prayer Moment: Lord Jesus, I offer my gifts of faith and leadership for the good of all the Church.

PASTOR’S DESK

PRAYER TO ST. PAUL FOR THE JUBILEE YEAR BEGINNING JUNE 29, 2008

Glorious St. Paul,

Most zealous Apostle,

Martyr for the love of Christ,

Give us a deep faith,

A steadfast hope, A burning love for Our Lord, So that we can proclaim with you,

“It is no longer I who live, but

Christ who lives in me.”

Help us to become apostles

Serving the Church with a pure heart and

witnessing to her truth and beauty.

With you we praise God our Father:

“To Him be the glory, in the Church and in Christ, now and for ever.”

Amen.

THANKS TO THE OUTGOING PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MEMBERS

We wish to express our gratitude to the SVF parishioners who have completed a two-year term of office: Mary Kay Lynch, Bill Mountel and Gerald Shannon.  (Mary Kay was re-elected to another two year-term).

Also, special thanks to Mary Sies who has served as secretary to SVF Pastoral Council for the past three years.  She has done a superb job of taking the minutes of our meetings.

May God bless those individuals for their years of service to St. Vincent Ferrer Parish.

MISSION APPEAL

A Missionary Appeal for the Diocese of Catarman in the Philippines will be held on the weekend of July 12-13.  Rev. Michael Semana will preach at all of the weekend Masses at SVF.  This appeal is to help with relief needs of children and the poor and formation of lay leaders. Catarman diocese is one of the poorest in the Philippines.  Please be generous.

ROOM "B" REMOLDELED…

With Help from Our Friends

Room B in the Parish Center (also known as the old Music Room) is getting a new look.  Many of our parish ministries meet there.  There is a fresh coat of paint and new pictures on the walls.  In July, the old carpet will be torn out, and a new tile floor installed.  New blinds will finish the job.  Stop in later in July to see our bright, new meeting room.  Thank you to Jim McCormick, our Music Director, for painting the room.  And a special thank you to a St. Vincent Ferrer parishioner (who has asked to remain anonymous) who provided the funds for the paint, the blinds and the new flooring.

LOOKING AHEAD

Our country celebrates its 232nd Independence Day Friday, July 4.  It seems most appropriate to celebrate Independence Day by thanking God for all the blessings that have been bestowed on our country.

Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 4th at 9:00 a.m. in the Church.  All Parish Offices will be closed in observance of the holiday

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL

The Catholic Ministries Appeal continues this week in our parish.  Our parish response to the Catholic Ministries Appeal to date is $17,389.  We have reached 56% of our parish goal. We are most grateful to those who have been so generous.  We ask that everyone in our parish participate with a gift of any amount.  Every gift helps.

                -Fr. George Kunkel

CALENDAR SCHEDULING FOR 2008-2009

EVERY group or organization that regularly meets or hosts events at SVF should submit to the parish office in writing their desired dates, times and room the group wishes to reserve for the 2008-2009 year (August-June).  Please list a contact person who will be responsible for clean up and security and if set-up time is needed.  Should any conflicts arise throughout the year this person will be contacted.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS SIGN AT

ST. VINCENT FERRER?

This sign tells you that there is an AED in the building.  An AED is an Automated External Defibrillator.  It is a machine that can help save a life.  This sign at the entrance to the Community Building alerts everyone that we have an AED there.  The AED is located directly across from the entrance to the parish office in the hallway of the Community Building.  It is behind a locked glass case next to the fire extinguisher.  You break the glass to get the AED in an emergency medical situation for someone who loses consciousness and has no pulse.  Many people already know how to use the AED.  This may be important if you are coaching, helping with concessions or are attending an event. Please share this information with your entire family.

DRIVERS ARE NEEDED

The SVF Driving Ministry is looking for a few more volunteers to help transport parishioners to and from the 5PM Saturday Mass. If you would be able to commit to one Saturday a month, or even once every other month, that would surely help.  If Sundays are better, we could use you for the 9AM or the 12noon Mass as well.  Please contact Donna Piening, 791-7449

BINGO AT ST. VINCENT FERRER

BULLETIN INSERTS

Please call the parish office to get your bulletin insert on the calendar.  All inserts must be put on the insert calendar as soon as possible. (The number of inserts are limited to 2 per week) and the copies need to be in the Parish office by Wednesday morning.  This will allow the bulletin stuffers ample time to adjust their calendar for volunteer time.  A special thanks to our volunteer bulletin stuffers, we appreciate your help!
