Today we celebrate the birth of John the Baptist, the child of aged Elizabeth and Zechariah. This child is a part of God’s divine plan of salvation. He is one of the greatest of saints, the last in a long line of prophets to prepare the minds and hearts of God’s people for the coming of the Messiah. John the Baptist is a great model for us. We, too, are a part of God’s divine plan. We grow strong in faith and share our faith with others, proclaiming the Good News of the Messiah.

Our country celebrates its 231^st Independence Day Wednesday, July 4. It seems most appropriate to celebrate Independence Day by thanking God for all the blessings that have been bestowed on our country.

Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 4^th at 9:00 a.m. in the Church. All Parish Offices will be closed in observance of the holiday

Your prayers are requested for the souls of Dolores Tenkman whose Mass of Christian Burial was held June 18.

Please welcome the newest member of our faith community: Jack Thomas Fowler, son of Brian & Abbie Fowler who was recently baptized at St. Vincent’s. Congratulations to the proud parents!

July 1^st has been selected as the date for the Parish to honor Sister Kaye Lednik and Judy Verny. All are invited to attend a gathering to be held in the Cafeteria, following the 10:30 Mass that day.

Through these years, both directly and indirectly, thousands of lives have been touched by their work of helping to build our community. Youths and adults alike have had their faith foundations formed and strengthened by their efforts. With a combined total of 31 years dedicated to the SVF Parish, they truly exemplify Christ’s call to serve others in His name.

So now it’s our opportunity to show our appreciation. Please mark your calendars for July 1^st to join in the celebration of their work and to wish them well as they prepare to leave us. A table will be provided for those wishing to express personal thanks through a card or gift.

Finance Fact: Enrollment at St. Vincent Ferrer Parish School is at 192 students for the

2007-2008 academic year, with a few more possible. We may even exceed our 06-07 enrollment of 193. Please pray for all our day school and PREP students.

The Peter’s Pence Collection helps the Holy Father provide emergency assistance to suffering people throughout the world. Contributions to the Peter’s Pence Collection are given directly by the Holy Father to diocese that are suffering from immediate emergencies as a result of war, oppression and natural disasters.

So that as a parish we can keep in our prayers those in our community who are ill, St. Vincent Ferrer Parish would like to publish the names of those parishioners and their families who are in the hospital, recovering from an illness or going through treatments. BOOKSHELF SPOTLIGHT

Books & Tapes borrowed NOW THROUGH AUGUST will not be due for return until September 30. Consider taking one of our spiritually renewing companions along for vacation and/or for a leisurely break on a hot afternoon or quiet evening. Stop by the ushers’ room located near the main entrance of the church to browse the wide selection of reading material in the bookcase.

2) Remove the card from the back pocket of the book. Sign your name and phone number and deposit the card in the acrylic container on the table.

3) Take a due date reminder card from the container on the table to place in your book.

Sister Melannie works magic with a metaphor. In this wonderful book she uses the image of “rummaging” to build a series of meditations about finding God in everyday events and places.

Some of the characteristics of rummaging are that it is a thorough search, not superficial, and requires at times turning things upside down and inside out; that it takes times; that it is messy, as life often is, and leads us into the not-so-pretty parts of our lives; that it often produces valuable discoveries when we least expect them.

Rummaging for God contains 100 rummagings, that is, short meditations that grew out of the author’s own experience. The questions and the short closing prayers at the end of each meditation, as well as the source and topic indexes, help facilitate the reader’s own rummaging. Perfect for private prayer and reflections or for group sharing.

The paper-recycling program will continue throughout the summer. Please bring your paper trash to the green and yellow recycling bin on the SVF parking lot near the community building. Remember, Only paper, magazines, and newspapers are accepted. NO PLASTIC BAGS, CARDBOARD or PHONE BOOKS. Thank you!

DUE TO THE FESTIVAL … the green & yellow paper-recycling bin has been moved to the area by the parish garages.

This summer St. Vincent Ferrer will begin building the 27^th house it has helped build as part of the Eastside Coalition of Habitat for Humanity. Next Saturday, June 30^th will be SVF’s second build day. Volunteers to work on the house and to provide lunch are needed. Anyone who can provide lunch for approximately 15-20 people, please call Peter Broome at 984-2473. All who would like to be part of this wonderful outreach program, come on out to 690 Glenwood Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45229, right next door to the homes we built last year. We will begin Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. If you don’t know how to build a house but would like to learn, here’s your chance! And it’s also your opportunity to make a profound difference in the life of one family

My name is Shannon Hughes, 1999 SVF grad, 2003 Ursuline grad, 2007 Xavier grad and the daughter of parishioners Tom & Heather Hughes. I am writing in order to let you know that after graduating from Xavier University, I have decided to spend the next two years working with a program called Jesuit Volunteers International. While living in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, my main responsibilities will be teaching and facilitating extra-curricular activities at Assumption High School. Jesuit Volunteers International is a Catholic, non-profit, tax-exempt organization that sends men & women to work with people in developing countries around the globe. Every Monday, in 30-minute intervals from 8:30AM-5PM,committed adorers pray in the chapel before the Blessed Sacrament. Dee Printing, the publisher of our bulletin would like to re-emphasize the importance of deadlines. In order for them to provide us with a professionally printed bulletin we need to receive all articles in writing by Monday at 3:00 p.m. You should indicate the dates you would like your bulletin article to appear. Unless otherwise indicated, all articles will run for 2 weeks. PLEASE NOTE: The deadline for the July 8 bulletin is June 27 at 10 am - due to the July 4 holiday.

Please call the parish office to get your bulletin insert on the calendar. All inserts must be put on the insert calendar as soon as possible. (The number of inserts are limited to 2 per week) and the copies need to be in the Parish office by Thursday morning. This will allow the bulletin stuffers ample time to adjust their calendar for volunteer time. A special thanks to our volunteer bulletin stuffers, we appreciate your help!

Many of the families we assist live in older apartments without air conditioning. During the summer the old, sick, and very young suffer terribly in the heat. Our Fan and Air Conditioner Drive helps folks like this. Through August 12, you can bring a new fan or air conditioner to Coney Island and receive a discount on your admission. All of our six stores will also conveniently be accepting fans and air conditioners. Or you may make a monetary donation at any Huntington Bank. Your generosity will allow us to help so many people in Cincinnati neighborhoods this summer.
