9TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Jesus speaks of a person building a house on rock; when winds blow against it, the house does not collapse.  “It had been set solidly on rock.”  This, Jesus says, is how solid our faith is when we listen to his words and act on them.  When we live according to Jesus’ teachings, we build a solid foundation of faith that will sustain us when the winds of sin and temptation blow through our lives.

Prayer Moment: Lord Jesus, build in me a solid foundation of faith.

PASTOR’S DESK

SCHOOL STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE

Thanks to the members of the St. Vincent Ferrer School Strategic Planning Committee and subcommittees who contributed significantly with their time and talent to the final report presented to Pastoral Council on May 21, 2008

A summary of the report will be given by Fr. George Kunkel before all Masses on May 31 and June 1.  An in depth presentation will take place by Sr. Catherine & Steve Zinser in Hamilton Hall after the 9:00 a.m. Mass on June 1, 2008.  The entire strategic plan for SVF School is available at the Parish or School Offices.

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES FOR EUCHARISITIC MINISTERS

Call Fr. George Kunkel if interested….

Eucharistic Ministers are needed for distributing Holy Communion after the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays to the patients at Jewish Hospital in Kenwood.  You would be scheduled once every eight weeks with other SVF parishioners.

Carriage Court, an Independent Living facility on Galbraith Road needs Eucharistic Ministers to lead Communion Services for the residents on Fridays at 10:00 a.m.  Join other SVF parishioners who serve in this ministry once every five weeks.

MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART

June is the month that is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  This is one of the most beautiful devotions in the Church and is a constant reminder of the unconditional love God has for each one of us.  Jesus’ example of reconciling love is a good message for all of us as we look forward to spending time with family and friends in the coming days of summer.

FIRST FRIDAY – June 6

DONUTS & COFFEE AFTER 8:30 AM MASS

Please join us in the cafeteria for a social after First Friday morning Mass held in the Chapel.

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL

The Catholic Ministries Appeal continues this week in our parish.  Our parish response to the Catholic Ministries Appeal to date is $17,389.  We have reached 56% of our parish goal. We are most grateful to those who have been so generous.  We ask that everyone in our parish participate with a gift of any amount.  Every gift helps.

                -Fr. George Kunkel

Did You Know??

The St Vincent Ferrer Class of 2008 graduated from SVF on Thursday evening, May 29th at 7:00 pm. We were blessed with a beautiful evening that began with Mass celebrated by Fr. George. An awards ceremony followed in our church before departing to our gym for a wonderful reception hosted by our seventh grade class and their parents. It was truly a memorable occasion!

We will miss this wonderful and talented class! They will go to their respective high schools and represent us well. They were awarded over $40,000 in scholarships from these schools!  We are truly proud of them and pray that our Lord will watch over them in their future endeavors!
