BODY
& BLOOD OF CHRIST
Today’s
Gospel is often referred to as “the feeding of the five thousand.”
It is amazing that five loaves and two fish feed 5,000 people, with
twelve baskets of leftovers. In
feeding this huge crowd – and 5,000 is a lot of people – Jesus shows us how
he cares for the whole person; he feeds both our physical hunger and our
spiritual hunger. He gives himself
to us in the Eucharist, feeding our hearts, minds, bodies, and souls – and
this nourishment is ours for the taking. Today
we celebrate our joy of the Eucharist in the solemnity of the Most Holy Body and
Blood of Christ.
Living
the Word: Carefully read today’s Second
Reading (1 Corinthians 11:23-26) and meditate on the mystery of the Eucharist.

DESK
NEW
DIRECTOR OF FAITH FORMATION BEGINS ON JULY 1st
Karen McMichael will soon
join our St. Vincent Ferrer staff as Director of Faith Formation.
Karen has previously worked as DRE at a Westside Parish for over 10
years. She has a background in
education, working with children as young as preschool age and as old as high
school age; she worked with adults as well.
She worked in public and parochial settings in Ohio, Kentucky and
Virginia. As DRE working with
families, she saw the need for expanding her background to include counseling
and so Karen worked on a Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Counseling;
spending time gaining experience in the counseling field.
As Karen herself said:
“As wife, mother and grandmother, I understand many of the needs of families
and am able to relate to varied groups. Returning
to service within the Church brings me full circle.
Being with faith filled people enriches my own faith life.
I am looking forward to working with the members of St. Vincent Ferrer
Parish.”

socialize. Please pray for a
successful meeting.
During the Priest
Convocation (Week of June 11) Masses will be available Mon thru Friday at St.
Gertrude Church in Madeira at 7:00am, 8:00am and 11:30am.

Your prayers are requested for the soul of Jean Funch-Conrad whose Mass of Christian Burial was held June 5.

Jesus
asked, “Why do you not give them something to eat yourselves?”
What do you have to offer to the hungry world?

FAREWELL GOOD
SERVANTS OF GOD
July
1st has been
selected as the date for the Parish to honor Sister Kaye Lednik and Judy
Verny. All are invited to
attend a gathering to be held in the Cafeteria, following the 10:30 Mass that
day.
Through these years, both directly and indirectly, thousands of lives have been touched by their work of helping to build our community. Youths and adults alike have had their faith foundations formed and strengthened by their efforts. With a combined total of 31 years dedicated to the SVF Parish, they truly exemplify Christ’s call to serve others in His name.
So
now it’s our opportunity to show our appreciation. Please mark your calendars
for July 1st to join in the celebration of their work and to wish
them well as they prepare to leave us. A
table will be provided for those wishing to express personal thanks through a
card or gift.

The
Earliest Christians
How
They Understood Their Belief in Jesus
How
They Defined Their Mission
By:
Terrance Callan
Code:
Church History
How
did the first Christians of the New Testament come to believe Jesus was the
Christ? What did they understand
and proclaim? What did this lead
them to say about themselves?
The
Origins of Christian Faith
is a scholarly treatment of first-century evidence of the beginnings of
Christian faith. Professor Callan
carefully analyzes the different layers of New Testament traditions to discover
how the first Christian communities grew step-by-step in their understanding of
the mystery of Jesus as the Christ. He
explains historically each foundational level on which our Christian faith
rests. The result is the story of
the early church’s development of its faith in Jesus.
This
significant work is fascinating reading for those interested in the growth of
the New Testament, the development of theology in its historical context, and
the exploration of Jewish and Christian relationships in the first century.
Terrance
Callan has been Academic Dean and Professor of Biblical Studies at the Athenaeum
of Ohio, is the author of several articles and books, including Forgetting
the Root,
and is currently
a parishioner of St. Vincent Ferrer.

The
paper-recycling program will continue throughout the summer.
Please bring your paper trash to the green and yellow recycling bin on
the SVF parking lot near the community building.
Remember, Only paper, magazines, and newspapers are accepted.
NO PLASTIC BAGS, CARDBOARD or PHONE
BOOKS. Thank you!
DUE TO THE
FESTIVAL LATER THIS MONTH…
the green & yellow paper-recycling bin will be moved to the area by the
