4th SUNDAY OF EASTER

Jesus tells us in today's gospel that He is the Good Shepherd. He makes a distinction between good shepherds, hired hands, and wolves. As a good shepherd, Jesus knows his sheep and his sheep know him. He is so devoted to his sheep that he is willing to die for them. Not only is this image fitting for Jesus and God's people, but it helps explain the love of God for his son.

Reflection:  Make a list of all the possible wolves in your life. They are the people, places, situations, or entertainment that pull us away from the love, comfort, and care of the fold. The list might include work, social commitments, or friends. Identify the more serious “wolves” and make a plan about how you will protect yourself and family from them.

PASTOR’S DESK

Mr. Steve Zinser has accepted the Principalship of St. Vivian School in (Finneytown) Cincinnati.

"MR Z", SVF Principal, will be leaving St. Vincent's at the end of the 2008-2009 school year.  Steve Zinser is a 1965 graduate of St. Vivian School.

Fr. George Kunkel is in the process of establishing a Search Committee to begin looking for a new principal for St. Vincent Ferrer.

Many thanks to Steve Zinser for his five years of dedicated service to St.Vincent Ferrer.

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES COLLECTION

Thank you!  Because of your generosity, The Catholic Relief Services Collection will be able to support disaster and emergency relief, refugee settlement, advocacy, development, and legal services for people in need all around the world.  Together, we will restore hope to Jesus in disguise, who reminds us that Christ is present in those who suffer – and in those who respond compassionately to their needs.

FIRST EUCHARIST

We had a beautiful celebration of First Eucharist for our Second Grade children on April 26.  Many thanks to all of our catechists, volunteers and parents who helped in their preparation.

THIS THE MONTH OF OUR MOTHER

May is traditionally the month when we honor Mary, the mother of God.  You may wish to make a special effort to pray the rosary this month for an end to violence and hatred in our city and world.  Why not take your rosary with you if you go for a walk on these beautiful Spring days or pray the beads with your fellow parishioners before the weekday morning Mass?  Let’s ask Mary to help us draw closer to her Son, Jesus.

LECTORS SCHEDULE

The Lectors’ new schedule for June, July and August – We are about to put together the next quarterly schedule for lectors.  Any questions or concerns regarding the new schedule should be directed to Susan Alosio, 745-9181 or smaloisio@fuse.net by Monday, May 11th.

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL

All we have and all we are, are gifts from God.  We are responsible for using these gifts as God intends.  The Church is one of God’s great gifts to all humankind.  We are all responsible for providing the resources the Church needs to carry out its mission.  The Catholic Ministries Appeal is a significant opportunity to carry out that responsibility. This appeal helps in the education of seminarians, deacons & lay pastoral ministers; Catholic Social Services; Chaplains for hospitals and prisons; College campus ministers; St. Rita School for the Deaf; and the retirement fund for diocesan priests.    Please make all checks payable to “Catholic Ministries Appeal” and mail them directly to the Archdiocese using the white “CMA” envelope mailed to each household.   To date $16,000 has been pledged towards our parish goal.  No gift is too small.

-Fr. George Kunkel
