PENTECOST SUNDAY

Following Jesus’ crucifixion, the disciples were uncertain of his message.  They lost hope and fear, locked themselves in a room.  Without entering through the door, Jesus appeared before them with a greeting of peace and a mission to spread the Good News.  The disciple, Thomas, was not in the room.  When he learned of Jesus’ visit, he would not believe it.  But about a week later, Jesus appeared in a similar way and Thomas was with the others.  Jesus invited Thomas to touch the wounds in his hands and side.  Thomas knew immediately that it was Jesus and believed.

Reflection: Using the newspaper, news broadcast, or situations you know about, share ideas about people in the world or your community who might be discouraged.  Suggest ways either in prayer or by action that you & your family might bring hope to these (or some) people.

MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART

June is the month that is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  This is one of the most beautiful devotions in the Church and is a constant reminder of the unconditional love God has for each one of us.  Jesus’ example of reconciling love is a good message for all of us as we look forward to spending time with family and friends in the coming days of summer.

FIRST FRIDAY – June 5

DONUTS & COFFEE AFTER 8:30 AM MASS

Please join us in the cafeteria for a social after First Friday morning Mass held in the Church.

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL

To date $16,171 has been pledged towards our parish goal for the Catholic Ministries Appeal.  If you have yet to make a pledge, you will be receiving in the mail this week a letter encouraging you to make a pledge or payment. The six ministries that benefit from this appeal are the education of seminarians, deacons & lay pastoral ministers; Catholic Social Services; Chaplains for hospitals and prisons; College campus ministers; St. Rita School for the Deaf; and the retirement fund for diocesan priests.    We encourage all parishioners to participate. Please make all checks payable to “Catholic Ministries Appeal” and mail them directly to the Archdiocese using the white “CMA” envelope mailed to each household.

TAKE OUT – Family Faith on the Go

Faith and Fun All Summer Long

Parents, don’t forget to look over the handout that you received last week.  Keep it close at hand this summer as a faith sharing resource.

In this summer issue of Take Out-Family Faith on the Go- Faith and Fun All Summer Long, we are all about celebrating the glory of God’s creation.  Summer days offer a peek at God’s artistry, and of course, God’s most wondrous creation:  human beings.  It’s all too easy to take our family members for granted.  Take a moment to recognize God’s divine presence in everyone, and learn new ideas for ways in which to embrace the true grandeur of God.

In addition to “TAKE OUT”…

There are also copies in the back of Church of In Focus Summer Sundays - Fun under the Catholic Sun.  Please pick up your family’s copy.  This year, make the Sabbath a day of genuine rest and recreation by recalling old traditions and creating a few new ones as well.  Let your imagination and creativity increase your faith … and enjoy the lazy, hazy days of summer Sundays while you’re at it.
