PENTECOST SUNDAY

On this solemnity of Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate the Holy Spirit and the incredible power of faith the Spirit brought to the timid band of Jesus’ disciples after his Resurrection.  The Spirit – the very same Spirit – is with us today, giving us the same strength and wisdom to carry forward the mission of Jesus.  Often called the birthday of the Church, Pentecost is a special celebration for us.

Living the Word: Pray for the Holy Spirit’s gifts of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude & knowledge.

PASTOR’S DESK

FAREWELL

We will have a farewell for Sr. Kaye Lednik, CSJ, SVF’s Director of Religious Education and Judy Verny, SVF’s Pastoral Associate on Sunday, July 1, 2007 after the 10:30 a.m. Mass in the Community Building.  Sr. Kaye and Judy’s last day at St. Vincent Ferrer will be June 30, 2007.  This farewell celebration will provide the parish an opportunity to thank them for their many years of dedicated service.

CONGRATULATIONS TO FR. LOU GUNTZELMAN ON HIS 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS ORDINATION TO THE PRIESTHOOD

On May 25 Fr. Lou celebrates his Golden Jubilee as a priest.  Congratulations can be sent to him directly at P.O. Box 428541 Cincinnati, Ohio 45242.  Fr. Lou has been celebrating Mass at SVF over the past few months.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

The ballots from the Parish Pastoral Council Election last weekend have been counted and

Barry Auer, Peg Halpin, and Conrad Neumann

have been elected to member at large positions.

Congratulations to all the new members of the Parish Pastoral Council – and a sincere word of thanks to all the parishioners who placed their names in nomination.

I am especially grateful to all those members of Council who are completing their terms.

CHANGE OF WEEKDAY MASS FOR SUMMER TO 8:00 AM & TO THE CHAPEL

Beginning Monday, June 4

Fr. George Kunkel mentioned this back at the Town Meetings in August of 2006.

We would also like to save the parish money on our “prime time” usage for electricity in Church.  If our daily Mass begins earlier, we can have funeral Masses earlier which also will help us save a tremendous amount of money on the cost of electricity.

HONORING THE CLASS OF 2007 –June 2&3

We would like to invite all of our parishioners who are graduating this year from elementary school, high school, college and graduate school to attend any Mass on June 2 or 3.  We will give a special Baccalaureate blessing to honor our graduates and to thank God for their accomplishments.

MEMORIAL DAY MASS

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, we will have Mass at 9:00 a.m.  It will be a great opportunity to gather as one Eucharistic body to pray for our beloved dead.  May all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

ALL PARISH OFFICES will be closed on Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day.  Also, there will be no Solemn Exposition.

                -Fr. George Kunkel

IN MEMORIAM

Your prayers are requested for the souls of Jean Cornett whose Mass of Christian burial was held May 17 & Spc. Michael Frank whose funeral service was held May 19.

BAPTISMAL PREPARATION PROGRAM

Parents are expected to attend the program prior to the baptism of their first child.  Godparents are welcome.  The program is offered quarterly.  The next program will be offered Sunday, June 3rd at 1:15 p.m. in the Chapel.  Please call the Parish Office to register.

VOCATION VIEW

The disciples of Jesus made bold proclamations through the promptings of the Spirit.  What is the Spirit prompting you to do?  Be courageous and act on it!  (Acts 2:1-11)

Rummaging for God

Seeking the holy in every nook and cranny

By:  Melannie Svoboda, SND

Code:  Prayer/Spirituality

Sister Melannie works magic with a metaphor.  In this wonderful book she uses the image of “rummaging” to build a series of meditations about finding God in everyday events and places.

Some of the characteristics of rummaging are that it is a thorough search, not superficial, and requires at times turning things upside down and inside out; that it takes time; that it is messy, as life often is, and leads us into the not-so-pretty parts of our lives; that it often produces valuable discoveries when we least expect them.

Rummaging for God contains 100 rummagings, that is, short meditations that grew out of the author’s own experience.  The questions and the short closing prayers at the end of each meditation, as well as the source and topic indexes, help facilitate the reader’s own rummaging.  Perfect for private prayer and reflection or for group sharing.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Paper Recycling

As the school year is coming to an end, we would like to thank all of the SVF staff, faculty and students who have supported the recycling program throughout the year by collecting their paper trash and taking it to the recycling bin.  This has been a terrific way to save trees while earning money for SVF!

The paper-recycling program will continue throughout the summer.  Please bring your paper trash to the green and yellow recycling bin on the SVF parking lot near the community building.  Remember, Only paper, magazines, and newspapers are accepted.  NO PLASTIC BAGS, CARDBOARD or PHONE BOOKS.  Thank you!

SVF School Stories

Did You Know??

Tim Seither, Class of 2005, recently earned his "Eagle Scout" rank with the Boy Scouts of America! Tim is currently a sophomore at Moeller; Tim built nine (9) toy/book shelving units and three "cubbies" for the Conductive Learning Center of Greater Cincinnati. This is a school that works with children who have motor-skill challenges like spinal bifida and cerebral palsy. We are very proud of Tim, another great SVF alumnus!

St. Vincent School Planning Committee completed a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis of the school and will be seeking your input June 2nd and 3rd at all Masses.  The committee wants the perspective of all parishioners – whether you have children in our school or not.  Since the school is an arm of the parish, you are all stakeholders so be thinking about your response.  The survey will also be on our web page.
