6th SUNDAY OF EASTER

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says that whoever loves him will keep his word.  Now when we tell others “I will keep my word,” we make a special promise to act in ways that conform to what we say.  When we keep Jesus’ word, we live in ways that conform to what he teaches.  Challenging as this might be, we “keep” Jesus’ word, and in this way, we know the peace he promises: “My peace I give to you.”

Living the Word:  Focus on ways you can share the gift of Christ’s peace with one another.

PASTOR’S DESK

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

We wish all mothers and grandmothers a Happy Mother’s Day.  If they are deceased, let us remember them in prayer.  Let us remember all special women in our lives: a wife who may not be a mother, our sisters, aunts, cousins, women of religious and friends who have been special role models for us.  May God bless you all.

FIRST EUCHARIST

We had a beautiful celebration of First Eucharist for our Second Grade children last Sunday.  Many thanks to all of our catechists, volunteers and parents who helped in their preparation.

PREP

This Sunday marks our final PREP session for 2006-2007.  The weeks and months have gone by quickly and it has been a good year of prayer and study for the students and teachers alike.  May God bless abundantly the PREP teachers and volunteers who bring God’s word and the teachings of the Church to our students each Sunday.  Your dedication is a real gift to our parish community.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

Our annual Parish Pastoral Council Elections will be held at all the Masses next weekend.  Many thanks to all of our parishioners who have placed their names in nomination.

MARIAN PRAYER SERVICE

Our grade school children will have their annual Marian Prayer Service on Wednesday, May 16th at 11:15 a.m. in the Church.  May is the month traditionally dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God – and all are welcome to join us that morning as we honor the Blessed Virgin.

NEW BUSINESS MANAGER BEGINS

ON MAY 21

Marc Greenberg will soon join our St. Vincent Ferrer Parish staff as Business Manager.  Previously, Marc served as Business Manager at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Milford for four years.  Marc brings 25 years of financial and business experience from his earlier career as an attorney and corporate officer with Eagle-Picher Industries, Inc., a worldwide manufacturing company.

Marc, who was born and raised in the Jewish faith, felt called to start attending Mass at St. Xavier Church in 1998.  After a period of discernment, Marc entered the RCIA program and at Easter Vigil in the year 2000, Marc was baptized, received Holy Communion, and was confirmed in the Catholic faith.

Marc and his wife Sharon are active parishioners at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, where they participate in the choir and in Christ Renews His Parish.  They live in Milford and have six adult children.

WELCOME TO DEACON JASON BEDEL

On Sunday, May 13 at the 9:00 a.m. Mass Deacon Jason Bedel will assist Fr. George with Mass.  Deacon Jason is studying at Mt. St. Mary Seminary for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.  Deacon Jason is a son of St. Martin of Tours Parish in Cheviot.  He will be ordained to the priesthood in May of 2008.

CHANGE OF WEEKDAY MASS FOR SUMMER TO 8:00 AM & TO THE CHAPEL

Beginning Monday, June 4

Fr. George Kunkel mentioned this back at the Town Meetings in August of 2006.

We would also like to save the parish money on our “prime time” usage for electricity in Church.  If our daily Mass begins earlier, we can have funeral Masses earlier which also will help us save a tremendous amount of money on the cost of electricity.

THE FEAST OF THE ASCENSION

Sunday, May 20 we celebrate the feast of Jesus’ Ascension into heaven.  You may recall several years ago this holy day was transferred from Thursday in the Sixth Week of Easter to the Seventh Sunday in Easter.  This means that all of the principal feasts of the Easter season – the Lord’s Resurrection, His Ascension into heaven and the Coming of the Holy Spirit (Pentecost) are now celebrated on a Sunday.

HONORING THE CLASS OF 2007 –June 2&3

We would like to invite all of our parishioners who are graduating this year from elementary school, high school, college and graduate school to attend any Mass on June 2 or 3.  We will give a special Baccalaureate blessing to honor our graduates and to thank God for their accomplishments.

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP REQUESTS ST. VINCENT FERRER TO BECOME A POD (Point of Distribution) FOR THE BOARD OF HEALTH

William “BJ” Jetter EMS and Fire Chief for Sycamore Township request that St. Vincent Ferrer Parish identify a few parishioners willing to volunteer as leaders in case our township needs to distribute vaccines or antibiotics to the general population due to an emergency.  If you can help please contact Fr. George Kunkel at 791-9030.

                -Fr. George Kunkel

A BLESSING FOR MOTHERS

We bless you and we praise you,

God of our mothers!

You are the God of Eve, mother of all

the living.

You are the God of Elizabeth, who bore the Baptist and of Anne, the grandmother of Jesus.

You are the God of Mary,

Joseph’s spouse and mother of our Savior,

given by Jesus on the cross to be

the mother of us all.

We thank you, God, for the gift of our mothers,

for grandmothers and godmothers

and mother-in-laws.

Send your Holy Spirit upon our mothers

by whose hands we were fed and clothed, in whose laps we learned to sing and speak, play and pray; at whose side we hear your word and celebrate the beauty of your creation.

Heal their pains and disappointments,

and forgive all that needs to be forgiven.

Give to them many times over the good that they have given to others.

Welcome into your kingdom all of our

mothers who have died.

Fill this world, O God, with a mother’s love!

In Gratitude…

We would like to thank the St. Vincent Ferrer Parish Community for the privilege and pleasure of serving you for the past 15 & 16 years.   Our ministries and commitment these years to the parish have been years of ministerial and personal growth and joy for both of us.  We feel that our ministries at St. Vincent have been completed.   Neither of us will be applying for the position of Director of Faith Formation, but we hope to be moving on to other ministerial positions in the Archdiocese.  Thank you all and may God bless you.

Education Event: “Catholic Teaching on Immigration” May 19

Catholics are called to "treat the alien who resides with you no differently than the natives born among you" (Leviticus 19:34).  It is important to understand that the Church's position on immigration reform is based on Catholic social teaching, which is derived from the Gospels and the words of Christ along with statements of the Popes and bishops from around the world.  If you would like to learn more please attend a free luncheon at St. Ann's Cafeteria (2900 W Galbraith Rd, Cincinnati, Ohio 45239) on Saturday, May 19th, 12:30 -1:30p.m.  For more information contact Chris Homan (607-5996) or Tony Stieritz at the Catholic Social Action office (421-3131, ext. 239).
