PENTECOST
SUNDAY
Today’s
Gospel and First Reading give us accounts that constitute the beginning of the
preaching of Jesus Christ Crucified, Jesus Christ Risen.
In the peace that Jesus extends to his followers, and in the power of the
Holy Spirit, a gathering of people like ourselves lets go of timidity and
confusion and becomes courageous. The
power of Pentecost is ours today – not just because we celebrate Pentecost but
because we are people of Pentecost. Through
the centuries, the Holy Spirit guides the Church and makes us bold and
unwavering in faith, prepared and capable of professing Jesus, Son of God, as
Savior.
Prayer
Moment: Come, Holy Spirit.
Inspire in us the fire of faith.
PASTOR’S
DESK
We
wish all mothers and grandmothers a Happy Mother’s Day.
If they are deceased, let us remember them in prayer.
Let us remember all special women in our lives: a wife who may not be a
mother, our sisters, aunts, cousins, women of religious and friends who have
been special role models for us. May
God bless you all.
WHITE
CARNATIONS ON MOTHER’S DAY
The SVF Development
Committee will be distributing carnations after Mass on Mother’s Day weekend
May 10 & 11.
We had a beautiful celebration of First Eucharist for our Second Grade children on May 4. Many thanks to all of our catechists, volunteers and parents who helped in their preparation.
This Sunday marks our final PREP session for 2007-2008. The weeks and months have gone by quickly and it has been a good year of prayer and study for the students and teachers alike. May God bless abundantly the PREP teachers and volunteers who bring God’s word and the teachings of the Church to our students each Sunday. Your dedication is a real gift to our parish community.
Our annual Parish Pastoral Council Elections will be held at all the Masses next weekend. Many thanks to all of our parishioners who have placed their names in nomination.
Our
grade school children will have their annual Marian Prayer Service on Wednesday,
May 14th at 11:15 a.m. in the Church.
May is the month traditionally dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God –
and all are welcome to join us that morning as we honor the Blessed Virgin.
LECTORS
SCHEDULE
The Lectors’ new
schedule for June, July and August – We are about to put together the next
quarterly schedule for lectors. Any
questions or concerns regarding the new schedule should be directed to Fr.
George at the Parish Office by Monday, May 12th.
CATHOLIC
MINISTRIES APPEAL
The Catholic Ministries Appeal continues this week in our parish. Our parish response to the Catholic Ministries Appeal to date is $17,339. We have reached 56% of our parish goal. We are most grateful to those who have been so generous. We ask that everyone in our parish participate with a gift of any amount. Every gift helps.
-Fr. George Kunkel
A BLESSING FOR MOTHERS
We
bless you and we praise you,
God
of our mothers!
You
are the God of Eve, mother of all
the
living.
You
are the God of Elizabeth, who bore the Baptist and of Anne, the grandmother of
Jesus.
You
are the God of Mary,
Joseph’s
spouse and mother of our Savior,
given
by Jesus on the cross to be
the
mother of us all.
We
thank you, God, for the gift of our mothers,
for
grandmothers and godmothers
and
mother-in-laws.
Send
your Holy Spirit upon our mothers
by
whose hands we were fed and clothed, in whose laps we learned to sing and speak,
play and pray; at whose side we hear your word and celebrate the beauty of your
creation.
Heal
their pains and disappointments,
and
forgive all that needs to be forgiven.
Give
to them many times over the good that they have given to others.
Welcome
into your kingdom all of our
mothers
who have died.
Fill this world, O God,
with a mother’s love!
VOCATION
VIEW
Come,
Holy Spirit, with your seven-fold gifts. Inspire,
enlighten, energize, an encourage me to be a witness for the gospel.
(1
Corinthians 12:3-7, 12-13)

If you have been thinking about becoming Catholic, or being confirmed, perhaps this year would be a good time to find out more about these issues of faith. Here at St. Vincent we have “GIFT” which is a “come and see” process for adults who desire to know more about the Catholic faith. Our sessions begin in late August. For more information please call Karen McMichael, Director of Faith Formation at 686-1124, or Fr. George Kunkel at 791-9030.

Appalachian
Trip--Thank you!!
A
big thank you to all who donated food, baby care items, personal care and
cleaning supplies for the Appalachian ministry trip. The directors of the Auxier
Lifetime Learning Center and Pantry were very grateful. They said that
the SVF donations filled a great need since supply has been low and demand for
the items has increased. Your generosity is much appreciated! For
more about the Appalachian trip, please watch for an article in an upcoming
article in "The Living Church".

like to thank all SVF parishioners, faculty and staff who continue to make this
program a success. By bringing your paper trash to the green and yellow

helping the environment. We receive about $100 from Abitibi each month
that we then use to sponsor mission work and to help support SVF projects. Thank
you!!

Did
You Know??
SVF held its first "Walk-A-Thon" this past Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 1:30pm. The children collected pledges and circled the parish property for over an hour on a beautiful spring day. The money collected was designated for the STAR
Fund. This fund, which stands for Student Tuition Assistance & Reduction, helps many of our students with tuition assistance. We are blessed that so many of our parishioners support this wonderful program.
We
collected over $2,000.00 for the STAR Fund thanks to the efforts of everyone
involved. A Special "Thank You" to Mrs. Neubauer, our eighth
grade teacher and Mrs. Bishop, our physical education teacher, for organizing
this event.
Artists
in Residence from Mad River Theater Company
St. Vincent Ferrer School will participate in the Ohio Arts Council’s
Artist in Residence Program May 12-23. The
school was one of 46 sites in Ohio to receive a grant to support an artist in
residence during this school year.
This year, the school will host two artists, Margaret Piatt and Michelle
Cornell, from Mad River Theater Company. During
the residency, Core group students in grades 4 and 5 will meet daily with Ms.
Piatt and Ms. Cornell, to compose, block and act out a short play.
Early in the workshop, several members of our community will be asked to
tell their life stories. The
students in the core groups, along with the theater professionals, will develop
and present a play based off the life stories.
On Thursday evening, May 22, St. Vincent Ferrer core group students in
grades 4 and 5, will showcase what they have learned by presenting the play.
This will be followed by refreshments.
The program will be hosted in the gym. All parishioners are invited to
attend. This same program will be
repeated in the gym on Friday morning, May 23 beginning at 8:45 a.m.
The
Ohio Arts Council helped fund this residency at St. Vincent Ferrer School with
state tax dollars to encourage educational excellence and cultural enrichment
for all Ohioans.
