PASTOR’S DESK

ST. VINCENT FERRER WILL HOST A SEMINARY INTERN FROM THE ATHENAEUM OF OHIO/MT. ST. MARY’S SEMINARY IN CINCINNATI… Adam Puntel

The seminary in Cincinnati recently approached Fr. George about the possibility of hosting an intern at St. Vincent Ferrer.  The SVF parish staff was open to hosting a seminarian.  Fr. George has years of experience as a supervisor of seminary interns.

In April, Fr. George was notified that Adam Puntel, from Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary, would be assigned to his internship at St. Vincent Ferrer.  Adam is studying for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.  He is a member of Incarnation Parish in Centerville.  Adam will serve as an intern at SVF from September 2008 through May 2009.  While serving as an intern at SVF, he will reside with Fr. George at the rectory.

THE FEAST OF THE ASCENSION

Sunday, May 4 we celebrate the feast of Jesus’ Ascension into heaven.  You may recall several years ago this holy day was transferred from Thursday in the Sixth Week of Easter to the Seventh Sunday in Easter.  This means that all of the principal feasts of the Easter season – the Lord’s Resurrection, His Ascension into heaven and the Coming of the Holy Spirit (Pentecost) are now celebrated on a Sunday.

BINGO – IT’S WORKING!  WILL YOU?

Our parish Bingo reopened last October, and so far it is a success.  Our Bingo has earned enough to pay all its start up expenses and, beginning in February, started to pay profits to the parish.  TO STAY SUCCESSFUL, WE NEED YOU – TO VOLUNTEER.  It takes about 11 volunteers each weekend to run Bingo.  Many people have helped us get started, but now we need additional volunteers. Can you work once a month, once every other month, once each quarter?  Our Bingo provides new (and needed) income for St. Vincent Ferrer Parish.  Please participate in making this a success.  To volunteer, call Brenda Hauser at 984-8446 or e-mail B.Hauser@remax.net

CONGRATULATIONS

To Joe and Carol Martini as they celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary at the 12:00 noon Mass on April 27, 2008.

PROMISE 2008

Please return your Letter of Intent as soon as possible.  Fr. George Kunkel has asked all St. Vincent Ferrer parishioners to increase their Sunday Collection for 2008 by at least $100.  If you need another Letter of Intent Form call the SVF parish office at 791-9030.

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL

The Catholic Ministries Appeal continues this week in our parish.  Our parish response to the Catholic Ministries Appeal to date is $17,219.  We have reached 56% of our parish goal. We are most grateful to those who have been so generous.  We ask that everyone in our parish participate with a gift of any amount.  Every gift helps.

                -Fr. George Kunkel

5th SUNDAY OF EASTER

Jesus says that he is the way, the truth, and the life.  If we know Jesus, we know the Father.  We who have never seen the Jesus of history see him in his church.  Here, in the Church, is the way, the truth, and the life; Jesus Christ. The Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, shows us the way, proclaims the truth, and offers us life in Jesus through the sacraments and in our Eucharistic liturgies.  The Risen Jesus in the Church is the way, the truth, and the life today as is Jesus for his Apostles and disciples, whose voice we hear in today’s Gospel.

Prayer Moment:  Lord Jesus, thank you for the Church, where I find you – the way, the truth, and the life.

VOCATION VIEW

“How can we know the way?” Jesus shows us the way.  Believe and he will do great works in you.  (John 14:1-12)

BAPTISMAL PREPARATION PROGRAM

Parents are expected to attend the program prior to the Baptism of their first child.  Godparents are welcome.  The program is offered quarterly.  The next program will be offered Sunday, June 1st at 1:15 p.m. in the Chapel.  Please call the Parish Office to register.

Please keep in your prayers all the men and women who are currently in the military serving our country.

In The Hospital or Recovering at Home:

Focus on FOCAS 50:

Over $23k Earned Year-to-Date

Thanks to all the families who continue to use their FOCAS 50 at Kroger.   This money is absolutely critical to our budget and we are very grateful to those families who shop at Kroger and use their FOCAS 50 card.

From the start of our fiscal year July 1 through March 15, we have received 10 checks from Kroger totaling $23,571, which represents 4% of all money loaded onto the cards.   We are well on our way to another year of over $30,000 of revenue from Kroger.  Since we started this fundraiser in June 2004, we have earned a total of $120,121 in “free” money, i.e. money our parishioners were spending at Kroger anyway and that Kroger has generously donated back to us.

It costs you nothing but a moment of your time to load money on the card before you check out (via cash, check or credit card).  Then use the card to purchase groceries, prescriptions, and even gasoline.  If you need a new card call or stop by the parish office so you can be a part of this great program that is helping with Funding Our Church And School.
