2nd SUNDAY OF EASTER
Because they still did not understand all that Jesus had told them, the disciples were huddled together, frightened, in a room. The doors locked; notwithstanding, Jesus entered the room and greeted the disciples with a sign of peace. Some have interpreted this sign of peace as more than the “all be well with you,” variety but more of the “shalom” type which entails a perfect harmony with God. In any case, the disciples received the Holy Spirit and came to understand the peace Jesus intended. The authority and power to forgive sins was also given to the Church at that time. It happened that Thomas was not with the disciples when Jesus appeared, but the following week, Jesus returned and Thomas was present. He would only believe what he had heard about Jesus' appearance if he could touch the wounds in Jesus' body. Jesus invited Thomas to do so, but also told him that the people who believed without seeing or touching were truly blessed.
Reflection: Our children often come to us frightened about one thing or another. It is our job to calm their fears and generally we do a pretty good job. But sometimes, our doubts or concerns are the same as theirs. When this happens, we're not always sure how to answer them. And after reading today's gospel, we may think that our faith is not strong enough. But doubt does not necessarily mean a lack of faith. Sometimes the best thing we can do is tell our children that we wonder about the same things they do and then together think about how our faith helps us answer the concern. Generally, these conversations revolve around a serious illness or death in the family and what happens when we die. It's not “lack of faith” that causes us to not know. It is a lack of knowledge because; it's true, none of us knows exactly.

THANKS TO MARC GREENBERG FOR LEADING THE SEDER MEAL AT ST. VINCENT FERRER
On April 8 we had 50 parishioners participate in a beautiful and prayerful rendition of the Passover Seder Meal.
CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES
On April 25 & 26 the annual Catholic Relief Services Collection will take place. This fund supports Catholic Church organizations that carry out international relief and solidarity efforts. Programs include relief and resettlement services to the victims of persecution, war, and natural disasters, as well as development projects to improve the living conditions of the poor; advocacy on behalf of the powerless; peace and reconciliation work for people suffering from violence; and legal and support services for poor immigrants. We appreciate your support for this important work of the Church. There is an envelope in your collection packet.
THANK YOU
Many thanks to all of our parishioners who worked so hard and diligently to make our Easter and Holy Week Services so prayerful. It takes an extreme amount of effort from many people and ministers to prepare for the Easter Celebrations…and what wonderful celebrations they were. Many thanks to the members of the Music Ministry, Art and Environment Ministry, Worship Commission, Liturgy and Planning Team, as well as our Sacristans, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers and Servers. These ministries as well as our parish staff all contributed in the beauty of our services.
CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL
An important part of our Lenten alms-giving here in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has been our participation in the Catholic Ministries Appeal. Over the years, this appeal was known as the Archbishop’s Fund Drive and more recently, as the Archdiocesan Fund Drive. The name change was intended to put greater emphasis on the important Archdiocesan ministries that it funds. These include: the education of seminarians, deacons & lay pastoral ministers; Catholic Social Services; Chaplains for hospitals and prisons; College campus ministers; St. Rita School for the Deaf; and the retirement fund for diocesan priests. The appeal began on March 14. Information was sent through the mail to all registered parishioners. Please make all checks payable to “Catholic Ministries Appeal” and mail them directly to the Archdiocese using the white “CMA” envelope mailed to each household or use the green envelope marked “Catholic Ministries Appeal” that was in with your regular Sunday collection envelopes and drop that into the collection baskets.
FESTIVAL 2009 – GRAND RAFFLE COMMITTEE NEEDED
Festival 2009 will be here soon, and we need a Grand Raffle Committee. The Grand Raffle is an important part of the Festival, producing thousands of dollars in revenue for the parish. We need 6 couples to organize ticket sales, attend the Grand Raffle party, and take shifts in the Grand Raffle booth. Please answer the call to serve your parish this summer by joining the Grand Raffle Committee. Just call the parish office and give us your name.
-Fr. George Kunkel
A big thank you to all who took time to nominate fellow parishioners for the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC). The PPC will be a valuable asset to our parish in the coming year. All nominee profiles/bio sheets and pictures need to be in to the Parish Office by April 15. A full listing of nominees will be available in the May 9 & 10 bulletin and voting will take place May 16 & 17 at all Masses.
IN MEMORIAM
Your prayers are requested for the souls of Carmella Conard whose Mass of Christian Burial was held April 13, Mary Lou Runge whose Mass of Christian Burial was held April 14, and Charlotte Congedo whose Mass of Christian Burial was on April 16th.
VOCATION VIEW
Thomas believed because he saw Jesus. We are blest when we have not seen and believe. What will it take for you to believe in Jesus’ call to you? (John 20:19-31)

Appalachia Ministry Trip in Auxier, KY scheduled for May 11-13
A group of SVF parishioners will be going to Auxier, Kentucky to help clean and repair rural homes with Hand in Hand Ministries. The date for this trip has been set for Monday, May 11 through Wednesday, May 13, 2009.
Last year, SVF parishioners who took part in this ministry were matched with an Auxier family of four who had lost their trailer when the father was hospitalized with chronic emphysema. The Hand in Hand Ministries’ staff assigned jobs according to ability, and the SVF volunteers set to work helping to create additional living space off of the 2-room smokehouse in which the family was living. After 2 ½ days of cleaning, painting and hanging drywall, a tired but deeply moved group returned to SVF, thankful for the gifts and talents God has given.
If you are interested in making this trip or have any questions about it, please contact Chris Homan at 607-5996 or by email: jhoman1@cinci.rr.com.
Social Justice and Outreach
Commission Meetings

Paper Recycling
Bringing your paper trash to the green and yellow bins next to the school, you are supporting SJ&O activities as well as helping the environment. We receive about $100 from Abitibi each month that we then use to sponsor mission work and to help support SVF projects.
Our paper-recycling program is doing so well – we now need two recycling bins.
Thank you!!
ALUMINUM CAN RECYCLING
St. Vincent Ferrer Parish recycles empty aluminum beverage cans. The can recycling container is located next to the paper-recycling bin. We only accept beverage cans (soda, beer, juice) - no soup cans, sauce cans or other types of cans please. Please make sure your cans are rinsed and completely empty before putting them in our container.
SCHOOL NEWS
DID YOU KNOW?
St. Vincent Ferrer School will hold our annual "Special Person's Day" and "Grandparents Day" on Friday, April 24. We will celebrate our school liturgy at 8:30a.m. in Church and then our guests will be invited to our cafeteria for coffee and donuts, before spending time in our classrooms. We look forward to seeing all of our "Special Guests"!
WE ARE GETTING SO CLOSE!
With your help, the St. Vincent Ferrer School junior high has currently collected 800,000+ pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House charities. Our impressive hallway display needs only a few more filled bins to reach our goal of one million tabs. Tabs may be placed in the box in the church's entryway or dropped by the school office. Many thanks to all who have donated and continue to donate tabs to help our campaign.

ADOPT-A PLOT COULD USE A LITTLE HELP
We have a couple of openings this season in the SVF Adopt a Plot ministry. If you are willing to help the 30 or more volunteers that care for the landscaping of our campus, we could use your help. There are several plots that need a “parent” for the season and we often need part time help to assist with special projects.
As with any task, it will be both challenging and rewarding and as much as you make of it. As chairpersons, we get most of the thanks that truly belongs to our many volunteers who for the past 4 years have made our campus a welcoming site. If interested in learning more, give us a call. Bob and Donna Piening 791-7449.

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
Steps to Safer Environments: The Archdiocese of Cincinnati mandates that adults who work with children and youth in our parishes and schools must undergo safe environment training. It is important to know the signs of an inappropriate relationship with a child. Programs for the safety of children and youth should be monitored. Parents should be aware of and sensitive to what is going on in the lives of children. Concerns should be communicated to the appropriate person in authority. For particular assistance, please contact Fr. Joe Binzer at the Archdiocese of Cincinnati at
263-6601.
