SUNDAY OF EASTER
Today’s
Gospel tells of the Risen Lord’s appearance to the disciples on the “evening
of that first day of the week.” No
doubt the news of the empty tomb has spread quickly – so there is a great deal
of confusion for the disciples. And
in the center of their confusion is understandable fear.
That’s why Jesus’ first words to his small band of followers are
“Peace be with you” – and the next thing he says is to repeat this
important message: “Peace be with you.”
The Risen Christ’s gift of peace was for his disciples – and is for
us today – the gift so desperately needed by a fearful world.
Living
the Word: Select a news headline about war
and pray for peace in that region of the world.
PASTOR’S
DESK
THANK
YOU
Many thanks to all of our
parishioners who worked so hard and diligently to make our Easter and Holy Week
Services so prayerful. It takes an
extreme amount of effort from many people and ministries to prepare for the
Easter Celebrations…and what wonderful celebrations they were. Many thanks to
the members of the Music Ministry, Art and Environment Ministry, Worship
Commission, Liturgy and Planning Team, as well as our Sacristans, Lectors,
Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers and Servers.
These ministries as well as our parish staff all contributed in the
beauty of our services.
SVF
FLOWER MINISTRY
Special thanks to the SVF
parishioners who delivered violas to over 50 SVF parishioners who are homebound
or in nursing homes. Donna Piening
does a great job coordinating this special ministry. I am full of gratitude to you.
CATHOLIC
RELIEF SERVICES
On
April 21 & 22 the annual Catholic Relief Services Collection will take
place. This fund supports Catholic Church organizations that carry
out international relief and solidarity efforts.
Programs include relief and resettlement services to the victims of
persecution, war, and natural disasters as well as development projects to
improve the living conditions of the poor; advocacy on behalf of the powerless;
peace and reconciliation work for people suffering from violence; and legal and
support services for poor immigrants. We
appreciate your support for this important work of the Church.
There is an envelope in your collection packet.
-Fr. George Kunkel
IN
MEMORIAM
Your
prayers are requested for the soul of Danielle James-Mundy whose funeral service
was held April 5.

Your continued prayers for this congregation, which has roots in our
parish, are gratefully received.

The
Seeker’s Guide to the Christian Story
By:
Mitch Finley
Code:
Inspirational
Spanning
from the birth of Christianity through the Crusades and the Protestant
Reformation to John XXIII and the Second Vatican Council, this brief and
accessible guide introduces us to the story of our Catholic Church.
Finley
presents eleven essays on significant “moments” in Church history, the
effects of which are still felt by Catholics and other Christians.
These events contribute much to the experience of the contemporary
Church. The
Seeker’s Guide to the Christian Story
addresses the question, How did we come to be the Church that we are today?
In
the midst of considerable anxiety, the Catholic Church is preparing to enter a
new century. Turmoil and
uncertainty are signs of life, indications that countless people continue to
care about the Church and its future; they care enough to take positions, to
argue, to ponder. One of the most
important lessons The
Seeker’s Guide to the Christian Story
offers is that change should not be feared but, rather, welcomed as a way for
the Church to remain faithful to its true identity.
To
read The Seeker’s Guide to
the Christian Story
is to see the human face of the Church – past and present. For those seeking to nurture a fledgling or mature faith,
this book helps us better understand who we are as Catholics by exploring where
we’ve been.

DARFUR
AWARENESS NIGHT- TUESDAY, MAY 1st
6 – 9 p.m.
Cincinnatians of all ages, races, cultures and faiths are invited to join
together at Fountain Square for a gripping presentation about the conditions in
Darfur, where almost 400,000 people have died in the past three years. Speakers
include Nick Clooney and Mayor Mark Mallory. We will raise our voices to help
stop the horrific violence and suffering.
The
group will then walk to the Freedom Center to hear more from guest speakers,
including a local refugee family, about the US response to the crisis. Our focus
is what we as individuals can do to help. Through stories, video, and prayer,
this event will convey the notion that, while one voice can have an impact, only
the power of many voices united can bring an end to this terrible tragedy.
Presented by Greater Cincinnati Advocates for Darfur.
DINING
FOR DARFUR II – WEDNESDAY, MAY 2nd
On
May 2nd, Max & Erma’s Rookwood and Hofbrauhaus Newport will donate 20% of
their food and beverage sales to Darfur relief charities. A special coupon
is required and can be found at http://www.cincyunitedfordarfur.org
In
September, the Greater Cincinnati Advocates for Darfur Coalition raised hundreds
of dollars for Darfur relief efforts thanks to the benevolent restaurants that
donated portions of their sales.
