PALM SUNDAY

This Gospel shows us great suffering: betrayal, abandonment, mockery, violence, injustice, and brutal execution.  It is unbearable to think about such extreme suffering; yet this is what Jesus endures.  When life brings to us deep emotional or savage physical pain, we gaze on the cross.  In Jesus’ redemptive passion and death, our strength is fortified and our faith in life everlasting is sustained.

Prayer Moment:  Good and gentle Jesus…I see and I ponder your five wounds.

VOCATION VIEW

Be willing to stay with Jesus/with others through difficult times.  Pray for the strength to endure hardships.  (Matthew 27:11-54)

Please keep in your prayers all the men and women who are currently in the military serving our country.

ST. VINCENT FOR THE POOR

Our next-door collection for our St. Vincent for the Poor Society will take place the weekend of March 16.  The baskets will be in the back of Church.  Your generosity is appreciated.

EASTER VIGIL is the most important liturgy of the year.  It is a celebration of our faith in anticipation of the Resurrection.  There are four parts of our liturgy – a night like no other.  We light the new fire and all the candles in Church once again.  We hear three of the stories on which our faith is based from the Old Testament.

Our gospel proclaims Jesus is risen from the dead.  Our community welcomes our new Catholics, adults and older children, into the faith through the waters of Baptism and then Confirmation.  Our celebration continues and concludes with Holy Eucharist.

It is good for us as a community to get back to our roots.  We hope everyone will consider celebrating Easter Vigil Mass together this year on March 22nd.  Our celebration begins at 8:30 PM.

Congratulations to our Elect:  Derek Brewer and Jodi Kastner who will be baptized at Easter Vigil.  ~  We also congratulate our Candidate for Full Communion: Ken Whitney.

Please pray for our Elect and Candidate.  You’ll find their pictures in the vestibule of the main entrance to Church.

PARISH LIBRARY

Consider taking one of our spiritually renewing companions for a leisurely break on a quiet evening or afternoon.  Stop by the ushers’ room located near the main entrance of the church to browse the wide selection of reading material in the bookcase.

FAITH FORMATION

PREP & Early Childhood

There will be no PREP and Early Childhood classes next week, Easter Sunday.  Classes will resume the following Sun., March 30th.

Operation Rice Bowl - This Lenten season PREP and School students join in collecting coins for Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl.  Operation Rice Bowl makes a huge difference to people all around the world, and our participation will challenge us to expand our own horizons.

Together, we can effect tremendous change:

Palm Sunday – Catholic Relief Services helps people all round the world – and some of them may be your own neighbors.  Your diocese keeps one quarter of the funds raised through Operation Rice Bowl to assist the needy in your own community.  Giving through Operation Rice Bowl helps alleviate suffering and strengthen communities.

This week let us be aware of people in need who live in our neighboring communities.

School & PREP students are asked to please turn in their Operation Rice Bowl donations by March 30th.

First Eucharist - Just a reminder that completed First Eucharist banners are due in the Faith Formation Office by March 28th.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

URGENT NEED FOR PAPER BAGS

We have a continuing need for grocery paper bags in order to support the bread running ministry for the inner city. Please drop them off at my house, 7541 Hosbrook Rd. or call me at 891-8287 if you have questions. Thank you for your help.  Barbara Pflum.

FOOD FOR THE POOR BARRELS

Thank you, thank you generous food donors for your donations of food for the poor these many years.  This food helps to reduce the suffering of families, many with hungry children.  Much of the food donated by St. Vincent Ferrer parish continues to be received by the West End Emergency Center, led by Sr. Judy, SND for many years.  It is distributed by the Center to needy families located in the Over the Rhine area.  Additionally, a Food Pantry has been maintained at SVF for years, which is also supplied by your donations.  It may surprise you, but people in our own area may also have needs.  Our Parish staff occasionally receives requests for food needed by both parishioners and non-parishioners.  The staff, with knowledge of the Pantry inventory, can provide some necessary food to these individuals and families.

GOD BLESS YOU, each and every one of you donors for your faithful contribution to the food barrels at Church.  Please make sure your donations have a current expiration date.
