FIFTH SUNDAY IN
ORDINARY TIME
The three readings from today’s liturgy ring with God’s call. In the First Reading (Is 6:1-2, 3-8), Isaiah responds to God’s call by confessing his sins and spending his life serving the Lord. In the Second Reading we hear about Paul’s response to the call of the Risen Jesus on the road to Damascus. And the Gospel is about Peter, John, and James following Jesus after their catch of a “great number of fish”. The Lord calls us all. Living the Word: Bless yourself with the Sign of the Cross, the cross you were blessed with at baptism.
PASTOR’S
DESK
RETURN SVF PLEDGE
CARDS FOR 2007
Prayerfully consider how you can financially support the work of SVF Parish. Please complete your pledge card and return it to the parish office or drop it in the collection basket.
HOSPITALIZATION
Just a reminder to notify the parish office if you or a family member is going to be hospitalized. The hospitals no longer call us with this information, so we must ask your kindness in letting us know. We are anxious to include you in our parish prayers and to have a member of our pastoral staff visit you.
PALMS & ASHES
Can you believe that Lent is only about three weeks away? We invite you to bring to Church next Sunday the palm you received last Palm Sunday (baskets will be at the main entrance of the Church). These palms will be burned and their ashes used this year on Ash Wednesday February 21st. The cycle continues as we remember year after year the Lord’s passion, death and resurrection.
BAPTISMS IN LENT
In order to use those forty days as a time of prayer and fasting to prepare for the celebration of the Easter sacraments with our Catechumens and Candidates, we do not plan to schedule any baptisms during Lent (February 21 thru April 4th) except in cases of an emergency or pastoral necessity. We are looking forward to celebrating the living waters of baptism with the new members of our faith community throughout the Easter season.
-Fr. George Kunkel

Your prayers are requested for the souls of Roslyn (June) Eschmeyer whose Mass of Christian Burial was held January 26, Brenda (Sparki) Kroeger whose Mass of Christian Burial was held January 27 and Roy Schlinkert whose Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan 29.

Grace Through
Simplicity
30 Days with a Great
Spiritual Teacher
By: Evelyn Underhill
Library Code: Inspirational
Writing at the beginning of the twentieth century, Evelyn Underhill was a thoroughly modern woman who explored one of the most abused words in the English language – mysticism. For her, mysticism was the art of union with Reality. It is a definition that includes both great saints and stumbling seekers.
Praying
with Thomas Merton
By:
Wayne Simsic
Library
Code: Prayer
Although
he never wanted a following, Thomas Merton became one of the best-loved and most
influential spiritual masters of our time.
Merton’s gift to all of us is this simple message:
the contemplative experience, which leads to a unique unity with the
divine and a new vision of life, is not only for monks, but for all Christians.
This book is an ideal companion for anyone drawn to a more contemplative form of prayer, a quiet resting in God’s presence.
SOCIAL
JUSTICE AND OUTREACH
Cincinnati
Social Action Collaborative Forum
In January 2006 the Catholic Social Action (CSA)
Office of the Archdioceses of Cincinnati facilitated a collaborative forum to
enable the social action groups of 29 Cincinnati parishes to work together on
two common areas of need. The collaborative voted that the two areas of
focus for 2006 would be "Ending Genocide in Darfur" and "Minimum
Wage Advocacy". Throughout the year, cross-parish working teams
developed educational materials and communications and created opportunities to
join together in prayer, advocacy and information sharing on these issues.
The collaboration launched a petition drive that helped to get the Ohio Minimum
Wage Amendment on the November ballot, which then passed into effect by Ohio
voters.
Paper
Recycling
The initial response to the SVF Paper Recycling
program has been incredible! We started the program with Abitibi
Consolidated in early March, and they are now emptying our green and yellow
recycling bin weekly! This is a terrific opportunity for our parish to save
trees and earn money by doing so! Remember,
Only paper, magazines, and newspapers are accepted.
NO PLASTIC BAGS, CARDBOARD or PHONE BOOKS.
Thank you for your continued support of this program!

SVF does not have a Boy Scout troop, our older scouts end up in various troops
in the community and we lose track of all their great accomplishments.
We'd like put together a complete listing of the Boy Scouts of our parish
both to be able to highlight their achievements in an upcoming edition of
the SVF newsletter, Living Church, and to share news with the scouts about
opportunities that may come up here at St. Vincent for both service projects and religious
programs for scouts. To be included, please forward any Boy Scout's name, troop
number, rank, email and phone number to Jamie Eifert at jke84nd@aol.com or
