SECOND
SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
In
today’s Gospel, Jesus changes water into wine at a wedding feast.
In John’s Gospel, this is the first sign, or miracle, revealing Jesus
as the long awaited Messiah. This miracle at Cana promises the new wine that is
yet to come, when Jesus establishes a new covenant in his dying that we might
have eternal life. We hear that his
disciples began to believe in him. “This
Gospel, and the entire life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus, call for a
response from us as well.
Living
the Word: What is your
response to the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
PASTOR’S
DESK
MARTIN
LUTHER KING DAY
This Monday January 15th our country honors the civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It has been 39 years since Dr. King was murdered. And just like the gospel teachings of Jesus and the exhortations of the Old Testament prophets, Dr. King’s message of non-violence and racial equality continue to challenge us to work for justice, peace and respect for all people.
SANCTITY
OF LIFE SUNDAY – 2nd Collection
Sunday,
January 21 is “Sanctity of Life Sunday”.
We ask that you remember the Lord’s Little Ones on this special day.
St. Vincent’s will have a second collection for the Pregnancy Center
East on Sunday, January 21st. The
collection being taken will support the ministry done at the Pregnancy Center
East, a center that offers women alternatives to abortion.
They offer free confidential pregnancy tests, counseling, adoption
information, infant clothes and diapers – and a variety of other services. The
Center has a 24-hour Help Line, 321-3100 and is located in the Hyde Park Medical
Arts Building, suite 11 at 2752 Erie Avenue.
Thank you for your financial and spiritual support.
WEEK
OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY
On Wednesday January 17th we begin our annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Some of the saddest chapters in the history of Christianity are the accounts of the division and fragmentation that have occurred within the Church. All of this has been in direct contrast to Jesus’ prayer at the Last Supper: “I pray Father, that they may be one, even as we are one.” (John 17:11) We will bring our prayer for unity among all Christian denominations to God each day and I encourage you to include this intention in your own personal prayers.
SACRAMENTAL
STATISTICS FOR 2006
During 2006
St. Vincent Ferrer Church had 48 baptisms, 9 weddings and 43 funerals. I thought
you might be interested in these statistics for the past year.
BAPTISMS
IN LENT
The season of Lent is just about a month away. In order to use those forty days as a time of prayer and fasting to prepare for the celebration of the Easter sacraments with our Catechumens and Candidates, we do not plan to schedule any baptisms during Lent (February 21 thru April 4th) except in cases of an emergency or pastoral necessity. We are looking forward to celebrating the living waters of baptism with the new members of our faith community throughout the Easter season.
-Fr. George Kunkel

Coping
as Caregivers
When a
loved one is ill
By: Pat Egan Dexter, OPL
Code: Family Ministry
When you are the caregiver of an ailing loved one, living a “balanced” life may seem like an impossibility. But nothing is impossible with God.
Coping as Caregivers is a book of strategies that help make the caregiver’s and care receiver’s situation better, easier, and even more fun. Written out of the author’s own experience of caring for her husband for eleven years, as well as the experience of fifty other caregivers, this book is a friend, a counselor, a practical guide.
The first section of the book covers common problems in caregiving and suggests strategies to cope with these situations. The second section provides guided imagery meditations for prayer and relaxation. The third section suggests games and exercises that have been proven to ease the time spent in treatment centers or to have fun at home.
Perfect for caregivers or care receivers who need a boost in their prayer life, a laugh on their lips, or a lightening of their load.

Monday from 10AM – Noon, Apr. 16th – May 7th, Sr. Deborah Harmeling will present “Medieval Women Mystics.”
The series will be held at the Athenaeum of Ohio. Fees are nominal. For additional information, please call 231-2223, ext. 143.

desperate need of volunteers to stop by Kroger and Bonnie Lynn Bakery, pick
up day-old bread and drop it off at a location in downtown Cincinnati (TBD

to work once a week, you would be providing a great service to the hungry
people of Cincinnati and Breadrunners would be happy to hear from you!
Please call Marley Belair at 792- 0110 or 328-6022
