THE DEDICATION OF THE BASICILIA

IN ROME

It is not clear what precipitated Jesus’ reaction at the temple.  In what would appear to be a fit of anger, Jesus used a whip to drive out the animals, and overturned tables sending coins, people, and animals scurrying in all directions.  The people took Jesus’ words literally and because of their immature faith, they were looking for signs.  That is why in this Gospel where Jesus says he will destroy the temple but raise it back up in three days, people were dumbfounded.  The temple had been under construction for over forty years and was still not complete.  It is no wonder when they heard that Jesus would raise it up in three days, that they could not comprehend his meaning.  They lacked the faith to understand that Jesus referred to the raising of his own body in three days.

Reflection: Building our families is much like constructing a building in that you need a solid foundation in order to build a worthy structure.  There are many things we might name that help build the foundation such as love, and essentials including food, clothing and shelter.  Some quality time and fun get-aways may help, too.  But the main ingredient, indeed, the cornerstone, is Jesus.  Not much else we offer our children will impact their lives as much as the religious foundation we provide.

PASTOR’S DESK

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING OUTREACH SPEAKER AT ALL MASSES ON NOV 15 &16

Fr. Matthew Habiger, O.S. B. a monk of St. Benedict’s Abbey in Atchison, Kansas, will speak on Natural Family Planning.  NFP is a thoroughly researched, safe, medically effective and family-supportive method of fertility regulation which can be used to avoid a pregnancy or to achieve one.  It has been effectively used worldwide for 20 years.  Catholic married couples who practice NFP will be available in the community building Chapel to answer questions after all the Masses on November 15 & 16.  A door collection will be taken up after Masses to support NFP.

OCTOBER COUNT OF THOSE ATTENDING MASS AT ST. VINCENT FERRER

During the month of October, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati requires each parish to keep a count of the number of parishioners attending Sunday Mass.  On an average weekend during the month of October 2008, approximately 1093   parishioners attended St. Vincent’s.  Thanks to Edmonde DeGregorio, the Head Usher, and the rest of the Ushers for keeping an accurate October Count again this year.

COMMUNICATIONS

St. Vincent Ferrer Church Family Album

Please visit our website to schedule your family portrait.  Since not all parish families have access to the Internet, LifeTouch is making calls to help families schedule a portrait appointment.  We need your help to have every St. Vincent Ferrer parish family photographed.  If you receive a phone call showing a “419” area code or “LifeTouch,” please answer and get scheduled. You can also contact parishioner Bill Mountel at 793-7634, and he will personally schedule you.

Top 5 reasons to participate:

  1. We selected Lifetouch for its outstanding reputation for quality portraits.  Also, LifeTouch will not pressure you to purchase extra pictures.  Please do not let this concern keep you from making an appointment.
  2. This is a great opportunity to receive a new family portrait. There is NO sitting fee, and you get a free 8 X 10 and copy of the Directory only when you sit for a portrait.
  3. Photo Christmas Cards are beautiful, and this may be the opportunity to get that quality portrait for Christmas.
  4. Our last Photo Directory was five years ago.  Having your current portrait in the directory helps everyone with recognition.  Teachers, parish staff and your fellow parishioners use this Directory, and we want your family to be included.
  5. YOU! Your family is important to our parish. This is a church family album, and we want you in it. This is a simple ministry we can all be a part of.

Our photography starts Nov 11.  Schedule your appointment by going to www.svfchurch.org or you can contact Bill Mountel at 793-7634.

ATTENTION SHUTTERFLYS!!!

We need your pictures for our

SOCIAL JUSTICE

WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE

The recent St. Vincent for the Poor winter clothing drive was very successful.  We took three van loads of clothing to St. Michael’s Community Center.  The center is experiencing troubled financial times.  The clothing will alleviate some of their problems.

A “Thank You” to the members of St. Vincent for the Poor, also to Dan Funk who arranged for the grade school girls & boys and their Moms & Dads who assisted in loading of the vans.  Words cannot express how grateful we are!

They paraded around the school after each gave their presentation!
