31st SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Today’s Gospel is about Zacchaeus, the tax collector to whom Jesus calls and with whom Jesus chooses to spend the day.  Today’s Second Reading is also about being called (2 Thessalonians 1:11-22).  What would we do if Jesus were to call to us and tell us that he intends to spend the day with us?  Would other things distract us?  Would we need to answer the cell phone, check e-mail, and respond to text messages?  We need not imagine a day when Jesus calls and chooses us.  In our baptism, we are called and we are chosen.  And like Zacchaeus, we respond with justice and generosity in service to others.

Prayer Moment: Today, Jesus, I raise my heart with gratitude for the privilege of being called to be a follower.

PASTOR’S DESK

NEW AMERICAN FLAG IN CHURCH

Thanks to Betty Yanakos, SVF parishioner, who donated the “New American” Flag in honor of her husband, August Yanakos, her son Thomas Glevicky and her brothers Edward and George Dummar who served in the United States Military.  On Veterans Day, November 11, let us remember those who served our country in the military, especially those who died while serving.

Focus on FOCAS 50

Over $9,000 Received Year-to-Date…

Get On Board for the Holidays!

A huge thank you to the families who continue to participate in FOCAS 50.  St. Vincent Ferrer has received $9,027 from Kroger so far this fiscal year.  We receive 13 checks a year from Kroger (one every four weeks) totaling 4% of all money loaded onto the cards. Having now received 4 of the 13 checks for 2007-2008, we are well on our way to the $30,000+ total we have earned each of the last three years ($31,396 in 04-05, $32,887 in 05-06, and $32,267 in 06-07).  This money is absolutely critical to our budget and we are very grateful to those families who shop at Kroger and use their FOCAS 50 card.

November and December are always our biggest revenue months for this program.  Thank you in advance to everyone who will consistently use their FOCAS 50 card as you buy Halloween candy and prepare for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s celebrations.  If you need a new card, this is the time to get one so that St. Vincent can benefit from your holiday grocery spending!  It costs you nothing but a moment of your time to load the card before you checkout, but it helps so much in Funding Our Church And School.   Call or stop by the parish office to get a card and get on board with this important fundraiser.
