FIRST
WEEK OF ADVENT
We
are reminded in today’s gospel that the world as we know it will pass away,
and God’s Kingdom will come in full. Jesus
tells a parable about a master who went away and left each of his servants with
a specific task to do. No one knew
when the owner would return, just as no one can know when God’s plan will be
fulfilled. The words of Jesus were
quite clear to the early Christians and to us today.
We must be watchful and always ready for Jesus’ return.
Reflection:
On this First Sunday of Advent, plan one
thing you will do this week to slow the pace a bit and focus on the call to be
ready and watching for the coming of God’s Kingdom.
Maybe you can spread cheer in the neighborhood, a nursing home or
hospital by singing Christmas carols as a family.
Perhaps there’s someone who may be lonely and you’ve been putting off
a visit. Make plans to spend some
time with that person soon.
PASTOR’S
DESK
CALENDARS
At
the doors of the Church today are liturgical calendars for 2009.
These calendars are a nice way to weave our everyday appointments and
family events into the liturgical seasons of the Church.
They are also a gentle reminder of the many saints we honor throughout
the year. We are grateful to Thomas-Justin Funeral Homes for
providing them.
ADVENT &
CHRISTMAS REFLECTION BOOKLET FOR 2008
St. Vincent Ferrer is providing each family in our parish a booklet for reflection during the Advent and Christmas Season. The booklets are in the back of church.
ADVENT
EVENSONG -
December 3rd
Our
annual Advent Evensong will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 3rd at 7:00
p.m. in the chapel. The celebration
of Evensong provides an oasis time of evening prayer during this holy, but busy,
season of Advent. Please come and
join us!
FIRST
FRIDAY – DECEMBER 5
DONUTS
& COFFEE AFTER 8:30 AM MASS
Please
join us in the cafeteria for a social after First Friday morning Mass.
FEAST OF THE
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
Monday, December 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary – A Holy Day of obligation. It is under this title that Mary is the Patroness of the United States. Masses for the Holy Day will be celebrated on Monday, December 8 at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The observance of this Feast Day is an important part of our Advent preparation.
ADVENT
RECONCILIATION / PARISH SERVICES
St. Vincent Ferrer will have our Advent Reconciliation Service on Wednesday December 10th at 7:00 p.m. in St. Vincent Ferrer Church. Receiving the Lord’s healing and forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation can be a very prayerful way to prepare for Christ’s coming at Christmas.
RETIREMENT
FUND FOR RELIGIOUS COLLECTION –
December 13 & 14
The
second collection will be for the many religious Sister, Brothers and Priests
who have dedicated their lives to serve others in God’s name.
Even in their retirement, they continue to counsel, teach and pray for us
all. Sister Patricia Marie Tyree a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame from
Covington, Kentucky will be speaking before all Masses concerning the
collection.
-Fr. George Kunkel

On almost every Monday evening from 6:45-8:30PM, in All Saints’

about their faith and their lives … and to eat junk food!
We’re on for December 1, 8 and 15. High
School Catholics from lots of schools meet to share, learn, discuss, eat,
pontificate, joke, pray, support, laugh, sympathize and empathize, complain and
sustain, and enjoy a safe, neat group of peers.
You are welcome to join us, and bring a friend if you’d like -
it’s how HOW kids are.

MUSIC
MINISTRY NEWS
MERCY
ST. THERESA CHRISTMAS PARTY
Sponsored
by the SVF Music Ministry
The
SVF Music Ministry will again host a Christmas Party at Mercy St. Theresa Care
Facility on Thursday, December 11. This
has been an annual tradition for many years, hosted by various groups at St.
Vincent’s. The residents really
“light” up as carols are sung while they munch on cookies we provide. The last thee years, we have asked what was on their “Wish
List”. This year they have
requested a gas grill & 50 cup coffee pot.
Could you help us give these residents a nice gift?
We appreciate anything you can give.
We will be collecting at Saturday & Sunday Masses the weekend of
December 6 & 7. We thank you in advance for your generosity.
God Bless you.

SCHOOL
NEWS
DID YOU KNOW…
Our SVF School Students and our Prep Students have been collecting canned
goods and non-perishables for the past several weeks. We recently delivered
hundreds of items that were shared with many families around the Cincinnati area
to help them have a better Thanksgiving holiday! Our kids did a great job
thinking of others at this special time of year!
Likewise, our Student Council and Sixth Graders held a Bake Sale on Wednesday, November 19 to raise funds for Thanksgiving. Their proceeds were given to the "Turkey Ministry" at St. Francis Seraph Parish to provide Thanksgiving dinners to many people in their area. Thanks, again, to the wonderful work of our students and staff in truly spreading the "Good Word" and "Living God's Word"!
