32ND SUNDAY IN
ORDINARY TIME
The
Sadducees, a Jewish sect, believe that life ends in the grave.
Jesus, however, teaches of eternal life. So the Sadducees pose to Jesus a riddle about the
resurrection, hoping that his response will make him look foolish. But the plot backfires.
Jesus does not try to untangle the complex knot of relationships the
Sadducees set up. Rather, he speaks
of one relationship: our relationship with God.
The most important thing for us to remember is that eternal life will be
far different from life as we know it, that God is the Giver of Life, here and
now and for all eternity.
Prayer
Moment: Lord, when your glory appears, my
joy will be full. (From the
Responsorial Psalm, Psalm 17)

greeting.
OCTOBER COUNT OF
THOSE ATTENDING MASS AT ST. VINCENT FERRER
During the month of October, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati requires each parish to keep a count of the number of parishioners attending Sunday Mass. On an average weekend during the month of October 2007, approximately 1080 parishioners attended St. Vincent’s. Thanks to Edmonde DeGregorio, the Head Usher, and the rest of the Ushers for keeping an accurate October Count again this year.
NEW AMERICAN FLAG IN
CHURCH
Thanks to Betty Yanakos, SVF parishioner, who donated the “New American” Flag in honor of her husband, August Yanakos, her son Thomas Glevicky and her brothers Edward and George Dummar who served in the United States Military. On Veterans Day, November 11, let us remember those who served our country in the military, especially those who died while serving.

CATHOLIC
CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT – collection Nov. 17 & 18
CCHD
is the Catholic Church’s anti-poverty program here in the United States. It supports groups of low-income people as they work to bring
long-term change to their lives and communities. They provide educational programs to help Catholics reflect
on their faith and build solidarity across economic lines. They also raise
awareness about the root causes of poverty in our country and our faith-based
call to address it. See this weeks
insert for more information.
Focus
on FOCAS 50
Get
On Board for the Holidays!
A
huge thank you to the families who continue to participate in FOCAS 50. St. Vincent Ferrer has received $9,027 from Kroger so far
this fiscal year. We receive 13
checks a year from Kroger (one every four weeks) totaling 4% of all money loaded
onto the cards. Having now received 4 of the 13 checks for 2007-2008, we are
well on our way to the $30,000+ total we have earned each of the last three
years ($31,396 in 04-05, $32,887 in 05-06, and $32,267 in 06-07).
This money is absolutely critical to our budget and we are very grateful
to those families who shop at Kroger and use their FOCAS 50 card.
November
and December are always our biggest revenue months for this program.
Thank you in advance to everyone who will consistently use their FOCAS
50 card as you buy Halloween candy and prepare for Thanksgiving, Christmas,
and New Year’s celebrations. If
you need a new card, this is the time to get one so that St. Vincent can benefit
from your holiday grocery spending! It costs you nothing but a moment of your time to load the
card before you checkout, but it helps so much in Funding Our
Church And School.
Call or stop by the parish office to get a card and get on board with
this important fundraiser.

Please
keep in your prayers all the men and women who are currently in the military
serving our country.
In
The Hospital or Recovering at Home:
So
that as a parish we can keep in our prayers those in our community who are ill,
St. Vincent Ferrer Parish would like to publish the names of those parishioners
and their families who are in the hospital, recovering from an illness or going
through treatments. We ask that you
contact the Parish Office at 791-9030.

FAITH
FORMATION
Next
Sunday, November 18th, is Eucharistic Sunday II.
Children preparing for First Eucharist will celebrate the theme “We
Gather” during the 10:30 AM liturgy.
This week these 2nd Graders of the parish reflected on
gathering together as a church family. The
Church is the assembly of those people, belonging to the Lord Jesus, whom God
has called together. How do we as a
parish come together to pray and care for one another?
Consider
taking one of our spiritually renewing companions for a leisurely break on a
quiet evening or afternoon. Stop
by the ushers’ room
located near the main entrance of the church to
browse the wide selection of reading material
in the bookcase.
All
persons over 55 are welcome to join us.
Yearly
membership dues of $10.00 are now being accepted.
Make checks payable to SVF and mail or drop off at the Parish
Office (Mark envelope H.W.)

See
Darfur Now!
Don’t miss out on this great opportunity! There will be a special
preview showing of the film, Darfur Now! at the AMC Newport on the Levee
on Monday, November 12 at 7:30pm. The American Jewish Committee, a
supporting group of Greater Cincinnati Advocates for Darfur, has 60 FREE tickets
available on first come first serve basis. Each ticket admits two people.
If you are interested in receiving a ticket, please contact AJC at (513)

Darfur Now is a call to action for people everywhere to help end the
crisis in Darfur. In this film, the struggles and achievements of six very
different individuals bring to light the situation in Darfur and the need to get
involved. The film explores the Darfur conflict through the first-hand
experiences of Don Cheadle, Hejewa Adam, Pablo Recalde, Ahmed Mohammed Abakar,
Luis Moreno-Ocampo, and Adam Sterling and portrays the heroic efforts of people
responding to this humanitarian tragedy unfolding before our eyes.
Starting November 16, Darfur Now! will also be featured at the
Esquire or Mariemont Theatres. Please check their schedules to find out
movie times and specific location closer to the date: www.esquiretheatre.com
and www.mariemonttheatre.com .
WINTER
CLOTHING DRIVE
TERRIFIC
SUCCESS
The recent clothing drive was extremely successful. We were able to deliver three pick-up truckloads and two large vanloads to St. Michael’s Center. In addition, one carload was taken to the Mary Magdalene House. This was an increase of 40% over the June summer clothing collection. The center’s director, Margaret Fritz, was very grateful, as the center had no winter clothing to distribute. She could not thank us enough for the parish’s generosity. A sincere “Thank You” to Dan Funk who recruited several volunteers from the parish ministry. Dan also arranged for his son’s fifth grade cub scout troop to help unload cars as they pulled up. About fifteen scouts and many of their parents participated. Some the parents directed traffic after the 10:30 Mass which became quite hectic with cars coming and going from all over the place. Without the scouts and their parents, it would have been a disaster. Again, a very grateful “Thank You” to all the volunteers, the cub scouts, the scout’s parents, and our loyal members and last but not least, our generous parishioners for a job well done.
CALENDARS
Again this year we are collecting 2008 calendars for the inner city poor. Please drop off at 7541 Hosbrook Road or the parish office. Last day to drop off calendars will be January 15.
SCHOOL
NEWS
Matt Glaescher, one of our Eighth Graders in Mrs. Neubauer's class received an award and certificate for his essay on a living saint. All of our Eighth Graders participated in the "A Living Saint" Essay Contest, sponsored by The Coalition United for the Poor. Matt's essay was written about his grandfather, Tom Sweeney. The students wrote about someone they admired and lived like a saint. They had to justify their thoughts in their writing. All of the students received a certificate for participating, but Matt's won a special award for the story about his grandfather! This was another example of how we continue to focus on our academic goal of writing and strengthening this skill with our students.
SAVE YOUR POP TABS
Thanks to all who have been collecting Pop-Tabs for us. Our 6th Graders have now accumulated 120,000 on their drive to collect One Million Tabs. Please continue sending your tabs to Mrs. Frost and our Sixth Grade Class.
