SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Using
a parable, Jesus got the Jewish leaders to admit their error.
He described a vineyard owner (God) who sent slaves (prophets) to collect
his share of the harvest from the tenants (Jewish leaders).
But the tenants killed the slaves. The
landowner sent more slaves, but the tenants killed them, too.
Finally the owner sent his son (Jesus).
Of course, they killed the son. Jesus
summarized his point by telling the chief priests and elders that what they had
rejected (their place in the kingdom) would now be given to the Gentiles.
Reflection:
God has given us a great harvest in our
children. The harvest may not be
perfect or a bumper crop in all ways, but nevertheless, the harvest is a
precious gift from God. Like the
greedy tenants, there are things in our lives that would take us away from our
responsibilities to our children. What
are the things we give in to and how have we justified their interference? Perhaps it is our job. Of
course, we need to support our families, but is our lifestyle worth a trade-off
in the amount of time we spend with our children? Do our friends, hobbies; ambitions sometimes get in the way
of family time? Today’s gospel
challenges us to appreciate the fruits of our harvest.
PASTOR’S
DESK
RESPECT
LIFE SUNDAY
The
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has designated October 5th as
National Respect Life Sunday. So
often our society is openly hostile to life.
On any given day the headlines tell of countless acts of violence,
murders and abuse. This observance
takes on special meaning in light of the many abortions and terrorist attacks
that have taken place throughout the world these last number of years.
More than ever, we as Christians are called to be the prophetic voices
who speak out – defending the sacredness of life in all of its dimensions.
May we never forget that all life is a gift from God.
CATHOLIC
INNER-CITY SCHOOLS COLLECTION ON OCTOBER 5
Today,
we will have a collection for CISE-Catholic Inner-City Schools Education Fund.
Eight Catholic elementary schools in Cincinnati depend upon financial support
from the Catholic Inner-City School Education (CISE) Fund to keep their doors
open for their urban students. Please
be generous and use envelopes provided for CISE.

is a process for adults who desire to know more about the Catholic faith.
If you are interested in joining us, or you have any questions please
call Karen McMichael at 686-1124, or Fr. George Kunkel at 791-9030.

Improving
Traffic Pattern - To
provide greater safety for our children and to help the traffic pattern on
Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM, we are beginning to use the same pattern that the
school uses on a rainy day. If
you are dropping off a child for the PREP/EC Sunday program, please come in
from Kenwood Road into the larger parking lot, turn right going toward the
school, drop your children off at the main door and proceed around the building
either exiting by the Montgomery Road exit or driving along side of the church
toward Kenwood Rd. If you are
parking to bring your child into the building please follow the same traffic
pattern. Thank you for helping to keep the children safe.
GREG
PIERCE IS COMING
to St. Vincent Ferrer on Wednesday, October 22nd at 7PM.
Save the date!
Noted
speaker and author Gregory Pierce will give a talk based on his new book, The
Mass is Never Ended: Rediscovering
Our Mission to Transform the World.
Using
the Dismissal from Mass as his lens. Mr.
Pierce will look at the Mass as a “Sending Forth” into our daily lives on
our jobs, with our families, and in our community and civic affairs.
Claire
Tenhunfeld, from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Office of Evangelization and
Catechesis says that Greg Pierce “offers straight talk about how we can
allow our faith to mean something for ourselves, our kids and our world. He’ll make you laugh, maybe cry, but for sure he’ll help
you find meaning and hope in the real stuff of your everyday life.”

SCHOOL
NEWS
DID YOU KNOW…
Do you have any "Yoplait Yogurt" lids hanging around your home?
Isaac Speelman from Miss Luebbering's 4th Grade Class has initiated
the collection of these lids for the benefit of the Susan G. Komen Cancer
Society. Yoplait will donate $.10 per lid to the fight against breast cancer!
Isaac decorated a box and has it placed in the school office to collect these
lids. He checks the progress of this drive each week. The catechetical theme for
St. Vincent's this year is "Living God's Word". Isaac is truly living
our theme as he thinks of others. Great job, Isaac!
Today, Sunday, October 5, is World Teacher's Day. It's a great time to drop a
little note to your child's teacher and thank them for everything they do to
help our kids!
REBATES! REBATES! REBATES
Please
help the SVF PTO raise money to buy playground equipment, school supplies and
support educational programs. By
collecting UPCs, receipts and redemption labels from products and stores we use
everyday, you can help. The
following stores and products have rebate programs: IGA – full register
receipts; Box tops from General Mills products; Tyson frozen foods UPCs;
Campbells labels: Kroger – use Focas 50 cards.
A rebate box will be located at the back of church.
This is a great way for our school to earn extra money for our extra
special children. Thank you - Erika
Riggs (coordinator) 891-2568.
SHOP

37% of the sale. You pay no more than if you went to the website directly.
To
take advantage of this great offer:
•
Go to www.svfchurch.org,
•
Click on the “church” tab, then
•
Click the icon about halfway down the right side of the page under
“Shopping.” This will take you to Fundraising Solutions.
•
Once you are at the Fundraising Solutions website, you can search for the
retailer you want and will be taken directly to their website. It will be as if
you went to this website yourself.
•
All purchases must be made by going through the link on the SVF website for SVF
