Twenty-eighth Sunday in ordinary time
Wis 7:7-11 Heb 4:12-13 Mk 10:17-30
These Scriptures proclaim: When offered the
choice between true knowledge or riches,
Solomon prays for wisdom of heart. When given
the choice between following Jesus or remaining
attached to his material wealth, the man
chooses his possessions. God’s word
challenges us to be attached to Jesus, and too
him alone.

27th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
At the beginning of this gospel, Jesus reminded his listeners of what God's original plan was for marriage. A man and a woman were to be united and live as one. It was simple. But as relationships developed, marriage must have been as complicated then as it is now because Moses had to make concessions for the people. Scholars still struggle with the words of Jesus in this gospel because imperfect relationships continue to exist today. What is clear in this reading is that in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven we must accept it as a gift. Children in ancient times as well as our own, depend entirely on their parents (or society) for their care. To children, everything is a gift because they can't earn anything. That is how it must be for us if we are to accept the Kingdom of God.
Reflection: Parents are accustomed to doing and giving, mostly for their children, but certainly for others as well. That is why the notion of today's gospel is probably one of the hardest for parents to accept. Jesus clearly lets us know that the Kingdom of God is a gift, given to us freely by God. It isn't something we can volunteer for, clip coupons for, or negotiate. Children, if we let them, will show us how freely and innocently we can accept this gift. Parents, pay special attention to your child (ren) over the next few days and see if you can pick up any of their wisdom about the gift God offers each of us.
PASTOR’S DESK
CATHOLIC INNER-CITY SCHOOLS COLLECTION ON OCTOBER 3 & 4
This weekend, we will have a collection for CISE-Catholic Inner-City Schools Education Fund. This collection will benefit Corryville Catholic, Holy Family, St. Boniface, St. Francis DeSales, St. Francis Seraph, St. Joseph, Prince of Peace and Resurrection … providing values for a lifetime! Please use the yellow envelope provided for CISE.
ST. FRANCIS DAY PET BLESSING
Sunday, October 4th is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. In recognition of this Saint who loved all of God’s creation, we will have a special blessing service for pets and animals on Sunday afternoon October 4 at 1:30 p.m., and Monday afternoon October 5 at 2:00 p.m. The Sunday afternoon service will be in the driveway area by the main entrance of the Church, and the Monday afternoon service will take place in the upper parking lot by the school. We are looking forward to blessing the variety of dogs, cats, birds, turtles, snakes, goats, horses, etc. that make up the animal kingdom in our parish. If there is rain the day of the Pet Blessing, the blessing will be cancelled.
RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has designated October 4th as National Respect Life Sunday. So often our society is openly hostile to life. On any given day the headlines tell of countless acts of violence, murders and abuse. This observance takes on special meaning in light of the many abortions and terrorist attacks that have taken place throughout the world these last number of years. More than ever, we as Christians are called to be the prophetic voices who speak out – defending the sacredness of life in all of its dimensions. May we never forget that all life is a gift from God.
OCTOBER COUNT
During the month of October, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati requires each parish to keep a count of the number of parishioners attending Sunday Mass. Thanks to all of our Ushers for helping to keep an accurate October Count again this year.
WAYS TO ENHANCE YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE SUNDAY LITURGY
Prepare for the Liturgy by reading and reflecting on the scriptures before Mass.
-Fr. George Kunkel

It gives parents, catechists and pastoral staff members an opportunity to work together to make the preparation a meaningful experience for the child, family and the parish.
