30th SUNDAY IN
ORDINARY TIME
In
last week’s Gospel, Jesus teaches about prayer.
In this Gospel, Jesus gives us a model of prayer.
He tells a story about two men praying in the Temple. One man is boastful; he focuses on his own goodness.
The other man is humble; he focuses on God’s goodness.
He comes into God’s presence knowing his great need for God’s mercy.
Jesus states that the “latter went home justified,” that those who
humble themselves will be exalted. Jesus
gives us the prayer of the tax collector as a model.
We pray with reverence and with an awareness of our sinfulness and need
of the unconditional love and mercy of our Creator God.
Prayer
Moment: Dear Lord, bless us with
experiences of reverent, humble, and grateful prayer.

RESULTS
OF CATHOLIC MINISTRY SURVEY
Thanks for voting on the
weekend of October 13/14 for the Regional Ministry you wanted more information.
Most St. Vincent Ferrer Parishioners wanted more information on Catholic
Social Services. We will be
providing you with more information on Catholic Social Services in the upcoming
weeks.
ALL SAINTS DAY
Thursday, November 1st is the Feast of All Saints – a Holy Day of obligation.
Holy Day Mass schedule Nov. 1 at 8:30 am, 5:00 pm & 7:00 pm. All Masses will be celebrated in the Church. At times the lives of many of the canonized Saints may seem a bit distant or remote from our everyday experiences and situations. All Saints Day gives us the opportunity to honor the unsung heroes and heroines of our Catholic heritage – the men and women in our families and circle of friends who lived good and loving lives and are now with the Lord in heaven
ALL SOULS DAY
MEMORIAL MASS
Our annual Memorial Mass for the Faithful Departed will be
celebrated on All Souls Day, Friday
November 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Church.
We will remember in particular all of our parishioners who have died
since last November, as well as those members of our local community whose
funeral services were held here at St. Vincent’s.
As part of our ritual of remembering, their names will be prayerfully
read and a candle symbolizing the light of their eternal life will be presented
to a family member or friend who is present.
This weekend, October 27/28, you
are invited to inscribe the names of your beloved dead in the register at the
rear of the Church. Each of these loved ones, along with all the faithful
departed will have a prominent place in our prayers throughout the month of
November.

Focus
on FOCAS 50
Get
On Board for the Holidays!
A
huge thank you to the families who continue to participate in FOCAS 50. St. Vincent Ferrer has received $9,027 from Kroger so far
this fiscal year. We receive 13
checks a year from Kroger (one every four weeks) totaling 4% of all money loaded
onto the cards. Having now received 4 of the 13 checks for 2007-2008, we are
well on our way to the $30,000+ total we have earned each of the last three
years ($31,396 in 04-05, $32,887 in 05-06, and $32,267 in 06-07).
This money is absolutely critical to our budget and we are very grateful
to those families who shop at Kroger and use their FOCAS 50 card.
November
and December are always our biggest revenue months for this program.
Thank you in advance to everyone who will consistently use their FOCAS
50 card as you buy Halloween candy and prepare for Thanksgiving, Christmas,
and New Year’s celebrations. If
you need a new card, this is the time to get one so that St. Vincent can benefit
from your holiday grocery spending! It costs you nothing but a moment of your time to load the
card before you checkout, but it helps so much in Funding Our
Church And School.
Call or stop by the parish office to get a card and get on board with
this important fundraiser.

Please
keep in your prayers all the men and women who are currently in the military
serving our country.
In
The Hospital or Recovering at Home:
So
that as a parish we can keep in our prayers those in our community who are ill,
St. Vincent Ferrer Parish would like to publish the names of those parishioners
and their families who are in the hospital, recovering from an illness or going
through treatments. We ask that you
contact the Parish Office at 791-9030.
