SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
The
chief priests and Pharisees tried to trap Jesus into making a political error or
renouncing God’s authority. They
asked whether or not it was lawful to pay taxes to the emperor.
Pointing out that it was Caesar’s head on the coin, Jesus told them to
give to the emperor what was due the emperor, but to pay more attention to what
belonged to God.
Reflection:
Sometimes we can get into debates with our
children similar to the one Jesus had with the chief priests and Pharisees.
Children often wear us down with their relentless arguing.
We would do well as parents to imitate Jesus’ simple and
straightforward response.

– The National Catholic Conference of Bishops has declared the following
concerning this Holy Day: Whenever All Saints Day, November 1st,
falls on Saturday, the OBLIGATION TO ATTEND MASS IS DROPPED.

Our
annual Memorial Mass for the Faithful Departed will be celebrated on All Souls
Day, Sunday November 2nd at the Sunday 10:30 a.m. Mass.
We will remember in particular all of our parishioners who have died
since last November, as well as those members of our local community whose
funeral services were held here at St. Vincent’s.
As part of our ritual of remembering, their names will be prayerfully
read and a candle symbolizing the light of their eternal life will be presented
to a family member or friend who is present.
Next
weekend, October 25/26, you are invited to inscribe the names of your beloved
dead in the register at the rear of the Church.
Each of these loved ones, along with all the faithful departed will have
a prominent place in our prayers throughout the month of November

FAITH
FORMATION
Confirmation
Candidate Enrollment
This
weekend, October 18/19, Junior High
parishioners will participate in an investiture ceremony at all Masses.
The young parishioners declare their intent to become actively involved
in preparation of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
The parish members, in turn, acknowledge the Confirmation Candidates’
intention and promise to support them through prayer and example.
The
ceremony provides an opportunity for us to become aware of the Confirmation
preparation process and to show support for these young parishioners.
GREG
PIERCE IS COMING OCTOBER 22nd!
What
do you think of when you hear, "The Mass is Never
Ended"? After Sunday's
Mass have
you ever asked yourself, "How is the
"Message" of the Mass working
for
me through the week"?
During
these trying times, Greg Pierce, noted author and speaker, will speak to these
questions
this Wednesday, October 22, from 7:00 to 8:30 at St. Vincent Ferrer,
in his talk
entitled,
"The Mass Is Never Ended". Using the Mass as our
"Lens" Greg will speak
of how
our family lives, employment, and civic affairs will be enriched
when we bring the
"Message
of the Mass" into and through the week.
Claire
Tenhundfeld, from the Office of the Archdiocese says that Greg Pierce
offers
"Straight
Talk" about how we can allow our
faith to mean something for ourselves,
our
kids and our world. He'll make you laugh, maybe cry, but for sure he'll
help you
find
meaning and hope in the Real Stuff of your every day life".

THANKSGIVING
/ CHRISTMAS TURKEY
It
doesn’t seem possible, but the holidays are coming soon – Thanksgiving and
Christmas. Once again, we are going
to provide the turkey and gravy for each holiday dinner at the Over the Rhine
Soup Kitchen and Our Daily Bread. Letters have been sent to all those who helped
last year. If you wish to join us,
it is very simple-
1.
Cook turkey; cut all meat off the bones.
Wrap white and dark meat together and freeze.
Save ALL drippings. STRAIN
and freeze also in a throwaway container. I
realize that many people are sure that giblets-gravy is best, but with the
amount we have to make, it is too difficult;
2.
Buy a turkey and someone else will cook it for you;
3.
Volunteer to cook a donated turkey; or
4.
Donate one (check made payable to the Parish) to purchase a turkey.
If
you have any further questions call Barbara Pflum at 891-8287

NEWS
DID YOU KNOW…
This
past Friday, October 17, was an "Out of Uniform" Day here at SVF. The
Student Council, with moderator, Lisa Neubauer, our eighth grade teacher, and
President, David Schlie, coordinated this special day. The students wore pink or
white in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The children had to
pay $1.00 to participate and the funds raised will be contributed to the Cancer
Society. All of us know family members or relatives who have been touched by
cancer. This is one of the many service projects our kids will be involved with
this year!
