28th SUNDAY IN
ORDINARY TIME
The
grateful leper in today’s Gospel recognizes God’s saving presence in Jesus. He opens himself to God and is able to see what the other
nine lepers cannot see: That lasting health and strength come from the healing
love of God. The grateful leper
reminds us of our own need for a greater awareness of the saving and healing
presence of Jesus in our daily lives. Through
the redeeming power of Jesus’ sacrifice, we share in the perfect health of
eternal life.
Prayer
Moment: Dear God, I am grateful for the
healing presence of your Son Jesus in my own life and in the lives of others.
PASTOR’S
DESK
CATHOLIC
MINISTERIES APPEAL
CMA is an annual effort by
the Archdiocese of Cincinnati to spread the Gospel through informing and
engaging the faithful with important regional ministries that benefit thousands
of people throughout nineteen counties in western and southwestern Ohio.
We invite you to share your gifts of time, talent, and treasure to
participate in the life of our local church through these ministries.
This weekend we will have a very short survey card for all parishioners
to fill out. You will be asked to
mark the ministry you would most like to learn about over the next few months.
We will tabulate the results, and have information in our bulletins so you have
increased opportunities to learn about – and maybe participate in – one of
these important ministries.
WORLD
MISSION SUNDAY
Sunday, October 21, is
World Mission Sunday. We celebrate
the gift of faith and recommit ourselves to sharing that faith with others.
We offer our prayers and sacrifices for the Church’s worldwide mission.
Please be generous in helping in the collection for the Propagation of
the Faith.
PHOTOGRAPHS
POSTED FROM PET BLESSING FOR 2007
There are many photos of
parishioners attending our Pet Blessings. They
are on easels near the front entrance of the Church.
Many thanks to Debbie Kamp for taking the pictures and putting them into
a collage.
BINGO
VOLUNTEERS
Thank
you to the many St. Vincent Ferrer parishioners who volunteered to help at
Bingo. Please note that we are
working our way through the list of those who signed up, and you may not have
been call yet. If you already
signed up to help, we will call you. If
you would like to sign up to help, please call the parish office and give us
your name and telephone number – we will pass the info onto the bingo
coordinators. We will call everyone
who volunteers to help!
LOOKING
AHEAD
Priests of the Archdiocese
have a convocation on Tuesday, October 23 at Incarnation Parish (Centerville,
Ohio). Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk
has called this gathering of priest to allow us an opportunity for education,
prayer and lunch together.

THANKSGIVING
/ CHRISTMAS TURKEY
It doesn’t seem possible, but the holidays are coming soon – Thanksgiving and Christmas. Once again, we are going to provide the turkey and gravy for each holiday dinner at the St. Francis Soup Kitchen and Our Daily Bread. Letters have been sent to all those who helped last year. If you wish to join us, it is simple –
1. Cook turkey; cut all meat off the bones. Wrap white and dark meat together and freeze. Save ALL drippings. STRAIN and freeze also in a throwaway container. I realize that many people are sure that giblets-gravy is best, but with the amount we have to make, it is too difficult;
2. Buy a turkey and someone else will cook it for you;
3. Volunteer to cook a donated turkey; or
4. Donate one (check made payable to the Parish) to purchase a turkey.
If you have any further questions call Barbara Pflum at 891-8287
CALENDARS
Again this year we are collecting 2008 calendars for the inner city poor. Please drop off at 7541 Hosbrook Road or the parish office. Last day to drop off calendars will be January 15.
Paper
Recycling
As
the school year is now in full swing we are seeing increased paper recycling.
We wish to thank all of the SVF staff, faculty and students who support
the recycling program throughout the school year by collecting their paper trash
and taking it to the recycling bin.
All
parishioners are welcome to participate in recycling by bringing your paper
trash to the green and yellow recycling bin on the SVF parking lot near the
community building. This has been a
terrific way to save trees while earning money for SVF!
Remember, only paper, magazines, and newspapers are accepted.
NO PLASTIC BAGS, CARDBOARD or PHONE
BOOKS. Thank you!
ST.
VINCENT FOR THE POOR

SCHOOL
NEWS
Students
in Grades 2,4,6,8 take the Terra Nova Tests in October. These tests have
sections on all of our major subject areas. They enable us to gather data on
each of our children and chart their progress over their years here at SVF. It
also shows how we are doing compared to other schools around the country.
Historically, we have scored at or above the national averages on these tests.
We are proud of our students' efforts on the Terra Nova.
