27th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Like many of us, the man in today's gospel lived a good life and was obedient to God. He probably felt pretty confident in what Jesus' answer would be when he asked what he had to do in order to be part of God's Kingdom. Jesus questioned him asking if the man lived according to God's laws. The man was a good man and said that he did. Jesus took interest in the man and even invited him to be a follower. But Jesus asked the man to do the hardest thing. Jesus asked the man to give away all his possessions and then come follow him. It was a sad moment for both Jesus and the man, because the man owned many material goods and could not part with them.
Reflection: We live in a time when material possessions are easy to accumulate. Their quality and inventory may vary from family to family, but it's safe to say that most of us own more, wear more, drive more, and eat more than we need for survival. From time to time, it's good for us to take stock of the things surrounding us and notice what it is we hold on to. Why do we hold on and would it be better to let go of some things? Sometimes our possessions can make us slaves to them.
PASTOR’S DESK
WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

-Fr. George Kunkel

FAITH FORMATION
EUCHARISTIC SUNDAY I is being celebrated this Sunday, October 11th, at the 10:30 AM Mass and the second grade PREP & School children of the parish who will be preparing to receive First Eucharist will be formally enrolled as candidates. Eucharistic Sunday celebrations are special events and important in the child’s preparation. Through the theme “We Belong” the children will recall their baptism. For it is through Baptism that we are initiated into the life of Christ and his Body, the Church. The children, along with their parents, formalize their commitment to prepare intently for First Eucharist.
Our membership in the Christian community is both a privilege and a responsibility. How are we as a parish witnessing the Holy Spirit’s presence to others?

THANKSGIVING & CHRISTMAS
TURKEY DINNERS
It doesn’t seem possible, but the holidays are coming soon – Thanksgiving and Christmas. Once again, we are going to provide the turkey and gravy for each holiday dinner at Our Daily Bread (near Findlay Market) and the Over the Rhine Soup Kitchen (Liberty & Vine). These dinners have been a service of our parish for almost 20 years. If you wish to join with us, there are four alternatives:
1. Cook turkey; cut all meat off the bones. Wrap white and dark meat together and freeze. Save ALL drippings. STRAIN and freeze, place in a throwaway container. You can make your own gravy or someone else will make the gravy.
2. Buy a turkey and someone else will cook it for you.
3. Volunteer to cook a donated turkey; or
4. Donate a check, made payable to the parish, which will be used to purchase a turkey.
If you have any further questions call Barbara Pflum at 891-8287. Thank you for your help.
New SVF Witness for Life Ministry
As Catholics, we believe that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. Our Church teaches that the role of government and other institutions is to protect human life and human dignity and promote the common good.
We are looking for people who are interested in social outreach and action and want to promote SVF participation in community and national events related to protection of human life and dignity. Members of this ministry will work together to provide visibility to upcoming opportunities for parish involvement and will help coordinate volunteer participation. If you are interested, please contact Chris Homan at 607-5996 for more information.

We are praying that, with God's help, this groundbreaking effort will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in our city -- and throughout America. While all aspects of 40 Days for Life are crucial in our effort to end abortion, the most visible component is the peaceful prayer vigil outside of abortion clinics and Planned Parenthood facilities. You can help make a life-saving impact by joining our local vigil at: Planned Parenthood -- 2314 Auburn Ave, Cincinnati OH 45219. For more information and scheduling, please contact Donna Piening at 791-7449 or by email at: rwp246@fuse.net
